From Lane County Online:

With the last two weeks before the General Election, "unofficial" ballot drop site locations are starting to spring up throughout Lane County.

"These are not affiliated with Lane County Elections," Annette Newingham, Lane County’s elections chief cautions.

There is no provision in Oregon Election Laws that prohibits "unofficial ballot collection sites"; however, Oregon Election Laws do require that a prominent sign be displayed at any such site in bold 50-point type, in capital printed letters "NOT AN OFFICIAL BALLOT DROP SITE".

With vote-by-mail, which is prevalent here, its disturbing to see that these sites are springing up- and that there is no law against it. I understand there are two sides to this issue but, really, there is no reason why third parties should ever be able to legally control the ballots of fellow citizens.

"Oh, look this one's from Miguel Hernandez- chuck it in the trash."

We've already had phone calls to Latinos around town saying they could vote "over the phone". Playing on ignorance to disenfranchise. Despicable.
