162. This is my favorite holiday because
it is not a gift giving holiday, there is no hype to shop for Thanksgiving except for maybe some groceries and I don't have to send out cards. It's focus is still on gratitude and spending it with people you care about. People tend to donate more food for the poor at this time. We focus on Plenty rather than Prosperity--where the focus is to share as we have plenty rather than just rewarding those who are prosperous. It is right before my other favorite holiday "Stop Shopping Day". Also, there is no great build up to Thanksgiving which makes it a special day, not anti-climactic like Christmas and Easter always seem to be. It is kind of like Independance Day with its emphasis on being happy, fun and sharing.

It is a bit sad for me this year because my husband is not home, he is done in Indiana and my siblings seem to all be doing "inlaw" Thanksgivings and my mom feels like she doesn't belong anywhere and she is too ill to travel to my house where she would feel "at home."

I am making a turkey breast, some green beans, a sweet potato, salad and picking up KFC for my son as he requested (he wants their potatoes). And I am making a small batch of sausage/cornbread dressing and will have some cranberry jelly. I am dieting so will forgo the mashed potatoes. I am making pumpkin fluff and bringing it to a friend's where we are invited for dessert. I am also going to make homemade eggnog for my son who thinks it is the nectar of the gods. I was going to buy some at the supermarket but they wanted $7.99 for 2 quarts. I just need to pick up some heavy cream. My son really puts it away-- he is 16 and still growing and is a bit underweight for his height.
