http://greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20090616/GPG0101/90616035/1978Kaukauna was the first pari-mutuel facility to close, but it wasn't the last.
Wisconsin Dells Greyhound Park ended its run in 1996, St. Croix Meadows in Hudson lasted until 2001 and Geneva Lakes Greyhound Park went dark in 2006.
The lone remaining track, Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha, is hemorrhaging money.
The track lost $3.4 million in 2008 after losing $2.8 million in 2007. Dairyland officials still are hopeful that a proposal by the Menominee Indian tribe to open a huge casino and convention center at the track will be approved. In January, the federal government rejected the latest bid by the Menominees to operate such a facility.
