I don't agree, though, that our presence in Afghanistan will help. Remember that Karzai is our guy, and he's apparently ready to acquiesce to this passive murder of women. I don't think that the position of women has ever been the primary concern of the U.S., under either administration, and I don't see that changing no matter how many troops we send into the country.
