2. good news, but a dose of reality

In Kentucky, there are 1.6 million registered Democrats and only 1.04 million registered repubs and with a closed primary system, it is almost always the case that, in absolute terms, the number of Democrats participating in a primary exceeds the number of repubs participating in a primary. On a more positive note, in terms of percentage turnout, the Demcorats and repubs both had turnout rates of around 33 percent in KY -- something that I regard as a positive since it suggests that Democratic "voter fatigue" was not the problem many have been predicting it would be (and/or enthusiasm among repubs/tea party was not any higher).

Not sure about the numbers in Arkansas -- my understanding is that most Arkansas voters don't register by party.
