when Barack Obama was a first-time candidate for President. But he won the election, he really doesn't have to prove anything beyond his capability to do the job to get a second term.

Trump is an expert at getting people, even slightly famous people, to make fools of themselves on his idiot shows. He engineered that whole Perez Hilton-Carrie Prejean prizefight, at of all things, the dying venue of a beauty pageant. Now he's made President Obama jump through a hoop like a circus animal, and he's trying to do the same thing with demanding the release of his school grades. What's the next "Survivor" obstacle that Trump will throw in the President's way when he wants the next round of humiliation?

Trump doesn't want to be President, he only wants Obama NOT to be President, and by making him look like a fool, he's helping the Repukes win the next election. He's allowed all of the Rethugs to have a shot at distancing themselves from the birther position well before the certificate came out. The President didn't convince anyone of anything by releasing it, those who find him 'foreign' still do so, even Trump has poured gasoline on the fire by suggesting that the certificate might not pan out as genuine.

If a President had to humiliate himself for the sake of his nation (think of E. G. Marshall's portrayal of the President in "Superman II", when he agrees to 'kneel before Zod' in order to save lives) it would be one thing, but to do it to appease lunatics for the craven sake of trying to be re-elected is what Trump manufactured as entertainment for snickering Republicons.
