176. To paraphrase: It's the audience, stupid!
EffieBlack - you've got it absolutely right. I'm an orthodox Jew. I don't have to defend quite the way and FrenchieCat do, but I get it.

What many are missing, I think, is that Obama has, when he chooses to exercise it, a finely tuned sense of audience. The "birther" idiocy reached its peak - Trump was demagoguing as a carnival barker. Obama also needs political capital going into the summer and 2012. He knows he'll never silence the Limbaugh-Taitz fringe. But when Bill are-you-kidding-me Reilly has to smack down the lunatic fringe, you know there's a new audience abrewing.

It's not just the release, it's the way it was done. Obama LECTURED the media. He dismissed the bonker barkers. And he got the attention of the all important independent votes. He changed the frame. "Here, children, you want to fight over a lego? Here's the lego. We adults have work to do."

The media is scurrying away from the birthers, cya-ing themselves. Independent voters will get it - they will identify with Obama's disgust, sympathize with him, and give him more benefit of the doubt.

Needless to say, I too have his back.

And thanks, EffieBlack, for the post!
