I'm a "life member" meaning that I paid $200 (to NEVER go to a single meeting).

I refused to join a local post because I would NOT salute the yokels who were Redneck a-holes. I am generic, paid the $200 and do NOT go to local meetings and only salute individuals who show some kind of MERIT.

I still receive (benefits of membership) the monthly 'zine, which I've hated, like when it has ALWAYS denigrated REAL veterans who happen to be Dems like KERRY and GORE, while propagandizing Wingnutism at every turn. I *did* request to be deleted from the mailing list, to no avail. I guess since their policy is that they will NEVER refund the membership fee they will, also, not retract the "benefits".

But THIS is bete noire to the max!1 In the current issue they do a typically Wingnut/TeaBagger piece on "Border Violence," AND as an authority, they quote one Ruben NAVARRETTE, a Clarence THOMAS type who does NOT represent his ostensible home group, who finds every opportunity to wingdance for the Shrub/CHEENEE bosses while always preaching/dictating/instructing Dems as to what they should be doing (to facilitate Rethug victories everywhere).

The VFW 'zine doesn't link, so here's the quote from Rubenny-boy:

"Thanks to Mexico's narco nightmare, our backyard is on fire. It will be a full-blown international crisis thatimpacts the lives of all Americans President Obama must start discussing the drug war in Mexico, with the American people, as a potential national security threat." --- Ruben NAVARRETTE, Jr., USA Today, Jan. 19, 2011
