1. I would say he 5:1 ratio is understated.
Perhaps this is because many of us who are un- or under-employed are not counted among the unemployed. I know that when I apply for a job, on those rare occasions I can even find one that I'd even have a chance at, there are a heck of a lot more than 5 people applying for it. Earlier in the year, I applied for a contract position (eg, temporary with no benefits, and the company had received over 200 applications in the first couple of days after the ad appeared!

But I did like the article.
