i think he still has some pretty high connections, he had people following the cia agents tailing him when he visited cuba and punked out the cia and told them their tail would end up dead if it were not called off.

he is still alive years later, he has something, connections or information, but he has something in my opinion, that enables him to avoid unfortuate accidents.
