GENEVA — A U.N. probe has found that Syrian troops killed hundreds of children and committed other “crimes against humanity” since the government crackdown began in March.

A panel of independent experts says at least 256 children were killed by government forces as of early November, with some boys sexually tortured and a 2-year-old girl shot to death just to prevent her from growing up to be a demonstrator.

The panel’s report to the U.N. Human Rights Council says government forces have used excessive force to “shot indiscriminately at unarmed protesters” while snipers targeted others in the upper body and head.

Their report, released Monday, said Syrian security forces along with militias were given “shoot to kill” orders to crush demonstrations.

I imagine that since the one is not predicated on the other in any way, we may discuss it directly without either dismissing or denying the existence of other...

I imagine the corollary exists also-- that the discussion of human rights abuses in the US does not require the discussion of abuses in Syria; that the two are, in fact, wholly separate. :shrug:

Syrian security forces have committed "gross violations of human rights" since widespread anti-government protests began in March, according to a damning United Nations report (pdf).

The investigation by the UN's independent international commission found patterns of summary execution, arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance and torture, including sexual violence, as well as violations of children's rights.

The report said at least 256 children had been killed by government forces, and that some boys had been sexually abused. One military defector told researchers he had witnessed the shooting of a two-year-old girl by an officer who said he did not want her to grow up to be a demonstrator.

The 40-page report includes testimony from defectors from the security forces, who described indiscriminate shooting at unarmed protesters and snipers targeting those using loudspeakers or carrying cameras and mobile phones.

5. Hell, we're #1 when it comes to killing children, women, etc.

Shame on anyone...but shame on us if we dare throw stones, cause our glass house is big and vulnerable to guilt for what we've done since Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc, etc. We are the world's present day imperialist power...and just like killing some 24 Pakastani military personnel seems like "collateral damage" to us....they are human beings, and I don't blame Pakistan at all for wanting those damn drones out of their country. Shame on US.
