West Bend man held for defacing petition, police say

By Gitte Laasby of the Journal Sentinel
Dec. 4, 2011

A 30-year-old West Bend man was arrested Sunday on allegations of defacing recall petitions for Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch at a residence in West Bend.

"The suspect stood in line to sign a petition and when given the petition clip board, he scribbled out some names on the actual form and the recall worker took the clipboard back and he left the scene without any incident," West Bend police Sgt. Matt Rohlinger said.

Police used a license plate number to track down the suspect.

The incident happened about 12:20 p.m. outside the house of a teacher who was collecting signatures, said Waring R. Fincke, a lawyer who is one of the organizers of the recall effort in Washington County.

then why would they fear a recall effort by such a "meaningless handful of malcontents"?

11. Rest of the story, they got the guy through his license plate:
The man was being held in the Washington County Jail.

The man will likely appear in court Monday, Rohlinger said.

This is a felony, hope he gets some time over this.

I have worked polling places and petitions, I hold no grudges against people of varying political bent, but to attempt or actually destroy the signatures or votes of others is reprehensible. If convicted, he should also lose his right to vote and not be reinstated after he serves his time if he is convicted; he has shown complete scorn for the process.

17. West Bend...they'll hold him for a few minutes and then drop him off at another
recall site to deface more petitions. This area is red, red, red. Just goes to show these Rs can't win an election or any other political contest without cheating.

"Just goes to show these Rs can't win an election or any other political contest without cheating."

Then how exactly did Walker get elected as governor?

20. Diebold. Voter suppression (as what's going on here.)

Just saying, consider that a possibility because it has been demonstrated that those voting machines are easily hacked and have thrown at least some elections. Also Repubs are very thorough of purging the voting rolls. You never hear them try to expand voting, and they are always going after the people who voted democratic. I mean, the governor himself had a picture ID voting law passed, and then began to close DMV's in democratic districts.

That's how Repubs win elections.

30. And after they do, they eliminate all the protections to democratic processes. Cheating doesn't
Matter, just like right or wrong after a war doesn't matter. The new status quo that people have to live under is what matters to them. Winning is everything to them.

This is straight out of Tom DeLay's book, and he's not serving his prison time, either. He wasn't even charged with what he did, which was pivotal in Florida in 2000. Good luck, Wisconsin.

33. I used to think he was legitimately elected. Until the past few months:
1) Kathy Nicklaus in Waukesha stealing not one, but two elections right in front of our noses (with press coverage) and getting away with it.

2) Optical scanners, just in the past weeks, shown to be unable to tally votes on paper ballots. That's what we use here.

3) All the cheating and money from Walker and his cronies, redrawing districts so huge numbers of people are disenfranchised in the next several YEARS, etc.

I am no longer so certain we can blame all the evil on Dems not showing up to vote.

21. Lots of rabid conservanazis in West Bend.
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 10:03 AM by TxVietVet
I've worked in West Bend. Most of the guys I worked with were rabid Nazi Rifle Association deer hunters. I had to listen to that conservanazi crap every time I had to work there. I'm just surprised whoever did this didn't shoot the person who passing around the petition.

An African-American motorcycle club had a rally at the Washington County Fairgrounds, just on the edge of West Bend. Man, those white conservanazis were freaking out. I listened to some of the idiot bu$hit on the local AM radio station which puts out lots of conservanazi propaganda. It was hilarious. Not a lot of minorities in West Bend and some of them will tell you they like it that way.

22. Could he have been one of Walker's "trouble makers?"
Walker has stated he was thinking about sending in trouble makers during his union-busting fiasco. Could he have acted on his promise?

This needs further investigating...

23. A few years ago in Knoxville….
I was getting my groceries checked out and right there was a stapled bunch of papers with signatures FOR prayer in public schools. I received my change and, Oh so smoothly, placed the petition in one of my bags and was off. And I don't want to hear any double standard shit. You can sit at a table outside and collect sigs, but if I wanted to place a petition there removing 'God' from all currency, for example-good luck.

Hilarious and frightening at the same time.
Our country is becoming increasingly polarized.
Hate Radio and Fox News are the driving force behind this insanity.
Things are getting UGLY!

I am a strong supporter of 1st Amendment Rights,
but these Conservative Media Outlets ARE Screaming "FIRE" in a crowded theater
while watching safely from the secure protection of the 1% balcony
as they gleefully whip their herd into a blind panic.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.
