Wavering Voters Have Doubts About Bush
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Voters who haven't firmly committed to a presidential candidate are in a sour mood.

They tend to be more disapproving of President Bush (news - web sites), have a gloomier view of the economy and be more likely to think the country is headed down the wrong track. The mood of these persuadable voters prompted one veteran Republican strategist to warn the Bush campaign that dramatic steps are needed to prevent them from bolting to Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites).

Republican strategist Tony Fabrizio, the pollster for Republican Bob Dole's presidential run in 1996, warned the GOP about the sour mood of undecided voters in battleground states, a small slice of the uncommitted voters in the electorate.

Fabrizio, who supports Bush, wrote in a July 8 memo that such voters are "poised to break away from President Bush and to John Kerry."

1. Poised? I think they are!
Listen to you co-workers, friends, and acquaintences. When they gripe, show them how Bush is responsible for our troubles. Explain that only by voting Democratic can we start to change things around.

2. Awesome!
Let's hope the Chimp don't listen again. Let's hope he doesn't wanna hear from anyone who isn't ALREADY behind him 100 percent!

Meanwhile, we, on the GOOD side, must make a concerted effort to reach out to these voters, and persuade them to join the GOOD Side...and fight the BFEE!!

3. Even if he listens, what can he do?
Ant attempt to win over swing voters will be opposed by his base.

He is caught in a trap of his own device.

5. Sweet!!!! And true!
Now...if we can only get the mafia to turn elections back over to the people, instead of having our elections "privatized", we can insure that these disgruntled voices can be heard!!

10. All the Chimp needs to do is stay the course.
and that should take care of it. There is not time enough for him to fix it, even if he wanted to. I truely think this war will be his undoing.

12. I think they are finished.
What can Bush do in 100 days that will change the minds of the people who have been watching him and judging him for four years?

Another attack on American soil? I really think it would backfire, big time. It will prove Bush can't keep America safe.

Finding Osama? You know what, I think they are not going to find him before the election. He's either dead or in a totally inaccessible part of the Pakistan/Afghanistan border.

Starting another war, this time with Iran? About all we can do at this point is drop bombs. Which may help him a little, but will it cause a significant number of voters to flip over and support him?

6. What a headline
"Wavering Voters Have Doubts About Bush"

What do they doubt? That he's sufficiently unbalanced and insane to bring about Armageddon? Having "doubts" about Dubya is like saying, "I don't know about this whole business of mortality. Death might not be such a good idea after all."

8. Heck...they could be describing the way MOST people are thinking....
...these days:

"They tend to be more disapproving of President Bush, have a gloomier view of the economy and be more likely to think the country is headed down the wrong track."

IMHO, it's NOT just the thinking of "persuadable voters" at all. Isn't that also the way a vast majority of Democrats/Progressives are thinking these days?

And yes, it probably also describes the thinking of a large number of GOPers OUTSIDE FratBoy's base.

11. The usual patterns of the incumbent candidate....
Edited on Sat Jul-24-04 04:30 PM by grytpype
An incumbent who is not clearly ahead during the campaign loses the election.

Undecideds go for the challenger in the end. The reason they are undecided is because they think the incumbent has done a bad job.

Bush is on a path to lose, and lose big.

As long as Kerry doesn't blow it.

As long as Kerry appeals to patriotism, God, Motherhood, Apple Fricking Pie, and the rest of that stuff, he can't lose. And I have confidence in Kerry in that respect, he's a smart, smart guy. He is not going to screw this up.

16. I agree, but am worried by the fact that Bush's approval rating
is still high considering what a miserable failure and total fuck up Bush has been.

17. That's the culture wars - the loony right base.
His re-electables just suck. I believe they'll try anything and are capable of anything, to win this election. I'm less sure that there's anything they can do, at this point.

They've pissed off fiscal conservatives, lost votes in the crucial Latino population, infuriated veterans and alienated middle-of-the-road-ers with their extremism. They still have the bedrock Jesus freaks, but are they enough this year? I don't think so.

21. Does this have sufficient coattails...
to turn over the Senate and House?

If not, somebody'd better start doing something.

liar, phoney, and he got my cousin killed.

Sure I was always going to vote for the Dem (and throw my vote down the toilet in Bush Country) But that was before. Now I don't know anybody who even likes Bush (although I know the Pukkkes will hold their noses and vote for him anyway.)

Everybody I talk to in my (not usually) swing state feels like bubba blew this gig.

15. Today's true story
One of our friends is a mobile notary, which means she presides over lots and lots of real estate closings. She's been working at a local title company on a specific property for a few weeks now. She told us earlier this afternoon that over the past few weeks, clients coming into the office to close on their new home can't wait to talk about politics. Since she is a professional, she doesn't initiate the conversations, but she says she is "floored" by the sheer numbers of those who are unhappy with * and can't wait to vote him out of office.

Over the past couple of days, she has had a client whip out a voter registration form in her office and ask if she was registered to vote (she's a good voting Democrat,) and she's also had another client ask her to vote Kerry in November. The client was very happy when she shared with him that she can't wait to do so.

I realize we live in a liberal area of the country, but I find this amazing as well.

Julie
