What should happen to New Jersey teacher Viki Knox, who called homosexuality a cancer on Facebook? |

1. Me too. How can you teach kids when you hate who they are? |

2. Kind of makes you appreciate the importance of being able to fire bad teachers quickly |
|
And not have it dragged out into endless paper-pushing that lasts 2-6 years.

6. Interesting question. If she was being fired for openly expressing pro-gay views... |
|
... would DU members be OK with her being fired?
Regardless, she's ignorant, hateful and not worthy of the title "teacher".

7. She has every right to her opinion and to express it |
|
on her facebook page. Others have every right to ignore her opinion, engage her in discussion of the topic or express their opinion.
Her remarks no matter how distasteful to one, some or many are simply her opinions and nothing more.
That said, she has most likely acted in an unprofessional manner and there should be consequences for such. It will be up to the parents of her students, the parents of the school where she teaches and the school officials to conclude on the correct course of action in her case and to perhaps set an example for the future.
