Local anti-choice jerk uses memory of Steve Jobs to further his views
This :sarcasm: gem :sarcasm: appeared (subscription required) in today's Dubuque Telegraph Herald;

Imagine this: You are an unmarried graduate student and become pregnant by another student who is a Muslim from Syria. What do you do? If you said abort, you have just killed Steve Jobs, the inventor of the Macintosh computer, the iPhone, the iPod, the iPad.

Thankfully, the year was 1955 and the culture of life predominated. Steve Jobs' mother chose to give life and a loving couple adopted him.

Fast-forward to 1973 when Roe vs. Wade became law and the culture of death has become predominant. Who knows how many brilliant people in the 52 million were aborted since?

Who now is responsible?

Sigh.

The writer goes on to point out the specks in the eyes of the unions - especially the teacher's union - and the local Catholic college for inviting the President to campus all while ignoring the redwood in his own eye.

1. Bull
Thankfully, the year was 1955 and the culture of life predominated

In the 1950's there were about 1 million illegal abortions per year. It may have been more since it was illegal and many of them weren't recorded.

Now there are aboutabout 1.3 million legal abortions per year.

There's very little difference between now and the "Culture of Life" 1950's other than the fact that women can get safe, legal abortions (except where lunatic busybodies have made it all but impossible to do so).

I love how they always imagine that abortions would have prevented people like MLK, Steve Jobs, etc. You never hear them imagining a world where abortions could have prevented Hitler, Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden.

2. Saddam Hussein's mother was actually going to have an abortion.
Somebody talked her out of it.

4. And their "culture of life" is a...
...culture of death, disease, war, famine, economic and social collapse, and environmental ruin.

5. It only applies to fetuses
After you're born you'd better be able to fend for yourself or FOAD. The "pro-life" people are staunchly against anything that might support, sustain or enhance life after it's born.

10. Indeed
I always put "pro-life" in quotes to indicate that's what they call themselves. I typically use it "pro-life" rather than anti-choice only when the rest of my post is going to prove how their actions and words are in direct opposition to their claims.

6. That's 'cause you're RACIST, not because of abortion
Back in 1955, abortion - expensive, secret, shameful, and dangerous - would have been the conservative's choice. The fact that Jobs' mother chose to carry him at that time more likely indicates progressive, even radical values - or worse, from their perspective - Middle Eastern values, than any "culture of life", which didn't exist in any meaningful way at the time.

But the suggestion that having a Syrian Muslim father somehow "justifies" abortion to people who think it should be an option - that's just foul.

Other than that, I'd weigh the potential unborn geniuses against the kids borne by teenagers, fathered by close relatives.

Besides, even if you had another Steve Jobs, he's not going to develop properly without the LSD.

12. There are some questions I don't answer...
...that's one of them because if I did quantify how stupid and illogical these people are about five minutes later another would come along that would say something even dumber and more illogical.
