Black Friday Protest Tactic Could Give Occupy a Black Eye
Recently, some in the Occupy movement have been promoting another tactic that could be a huge mistake: Black Friday protests. Such protests at brick-and-mortar sites are likely to be perceived as nuisances at best - how many people enjoy being waylaid (or even distracted) by people selling candy, waving petitions and picketing outside storefronts? The protesters risk coming off as enemies of the consumer rather than the corporations they're supposed to be targeting.

It's like the BART protests in the SF Bay Area a number of months ago. When the protests were peaceful and their message was clearly oriented against the BART police abuses and the cell phone service interruptions, most people supported them. Once the protesters changed tactics and started trying to shut down trains and stations, blocking people from getting to work and home, public opinion swung solidly against them overnight. Once public support evaporated, the protests collapsed.

The 1% doesn't shop on Black Friday. Who do they think they will be harassing?

6. They could also get a star in their crown if they are present with signs & leaflets
but are respectful of customers.

8. Such protests would be counterproductive. Might they be sham protests launched by baggers?
I don't like it.

9. Being annoying is never a good tactic. Wes Clark was on CNN last night & I heard "banks got bailed
out we got sold out" and it was extremely annoying because I had a hard time hearing General Clark.

10. My REC takes it back to ZERO. If the two Occupiers who are 'bottom-lining' our
Occupy's Black Friday direct action are any indication of what is in store, it will be ugly. These guys are over-the-top anarchists who thrive on excitement and doing anything to upset the 'average' American.
