I have a question to ask all of you.
Has the world finally come to a real place where our military troops could be in danger of the world attacking us and nuclear bombs being set off in numbers? I sit here and read all day articles from around the world, from all of you, and today I got a real troubling fear within myself that of all my 46 years spent on this earth could really easily go up in a mushroom cloud like no other time in my life.

It's funny really, when looking back on my schooling throughout most of my elementary life, we spent a large majority of our time practicing (in a ridiculous manner I might add, as if hiding under our little desks was going to stop a nuclear bomb from taking us all out in Omaha NE, 20 miles from Offut Air Force Base.) We had drills at least once a week, sounding the alarm that we were being attacked by the enemy. We lived each day in fear of it being our last and it was probably a smart way to live considering the information that is finally becoming available to the outside world after 30 years from the days of JFK and now knowing that possibility was very real.

But we don't do that anymore with our children. We have raised our children in their little worlds telling them that they are safe and we live to take away those fears, making life cushy and comfortable, and some might say even spoiled our children into believing that those times were past, that there was nothing to worry about, that all the bombs had been dismantled and that we are all going to live in peace as one, feeding the hungry and spoiling the children that our ours. What do we tell them now?

I read a post on here earlier that stated people act as if Cindy is Santa Claus and sit in anticipation to hear what she has to say. We have all horribly forgotten what our world was like in the early 60's. Most of the people that lived in the fairy tale world back then, where mommy and daddy took away the possibility of any harm to them, are now running our country. And the rest of us are those people that remember what it was like to be afraid of a nuclear strike against us and we are hiding under our desks, peeking our heads out wondering if the coast is clear. I had one of my earlier post taken and chopped apart by a freeper site a few weeks ago. In that post I spoke as Cindy being a light, something higher then religion and faith, she was a light that was shining and that people were looking at. You could say that this could be a "Santa Claus" light or any other analogy, but what I am coming to believe is that people have got to remember, I know I lived among thousands of them in the 60's and we all knew the drill. Are those people out here and are they realizing that they may have to teach their own children soon that this isn't a joke, this isn't a test anymore. This is an administration that has invaded another country, has flipped the bird to China and North Korea, has told Iran that we will drop the bomb. When are we going to start waking up the children again and telling them, hey kids, there is a good possibility that you could be gone tomorrow by a very big bomb that the US hasn't destroyed and now many other places have that same bomb? Hey kids, it isn't about "Goats" anymore, I think we need to bring back the real truth, that there is a very good possibility now that this could all be over. Wake up kids, time to hide under your desks again. Thanks for listening.

1. I do believe that...
The stinking, sweating fear that marked the cold war is something that they want to return. In a climate like that, they can pretty wel do what they want regarding strategic and tactical issues like the military and petroleum. It's already working with some folks.

2. That certainly brings back memories of hiding under my desk
in the late 60s...or lined up squatting in hallways, in the middle of nowhere TX. I think you're right... it's time to scare the little children again... get under your desks!!

Good post.

3. we are not there yet
Europe has no taste for war and China would rather get rich off our debt. Russia has its own problems. I do not think we are there yet. However if we do invade Iran, who knows at that point. But selling the country on Iran would be almost impossible right now.

4. I agree.
But, I don't think Bush would bother with selling war on Iran. I think he would just do it.

5. I agree also
and this is the first time in my life where we are actually out load threating to drop the damn thing on Iran. And I don't think Bush will ask, he is going to let Cheney push the big old red button.

6. It scares the crap out of me
He's a uniter not a divider, and he's almost pulled it off. The whole world is almost united against him. My brother and I think the only way back from brink is to hand him over to the International Criminal Court. (Nice fantasy, huh?) I'll let you enjoy that one for a moment longer. Go with it.

If we did that, the radical Islamic world would instantly understand what they are up against. I don't think they were very impressed with us nabbing Saadam like we were plucking a flea. If we were to bring down Dubbya without flexing a finger I think they might begin to have a true respect for US power and might. I believe that is where he belongs to be anyway. If it weakens our enemies, so much the better. I don't pretend to understand Shiite think, but I know they would be impressed. Very much impressed. And I would see it as advancing truth, justice, and the American way.

7. delivery of the nukes a big problem
despite the much-hyped missile gap & icbms, it turned out we most likely survived the 60s because the soviets lacked sufficient delivery

this is still the case w. most of our enemies today

pakistan & india may seek longer range missiles but they don't seem to have made enough progress to reach the usa

problematical that n. korea could hit us also

rich countries or aspiring countries, russia, china, etc. may or may not be able to deliver, but nuclear war is bad for bidness so they won't

i'd say the biggest danger is not global thermonuclear war but a terrorist w. a more primitive atomic bomb creating panic & havoc

in theory i'm sure pakistan could lob a nuke into afghanistan or iraq but 1) they are pretending to be our allies, 2) too much $$$ & trouble per # of americans taken out, would the bomb retain its horror if it took out a few thousand soldiers & contractors rather than civilian targets

i don't lose much sleep over nuclear war, if it happens on a large scale, it will be because of bungling not because of an intentional decision to take out the usa

not much to be done abt bunglings, the chimps are in charge, but they kept reagan's finger off the button, i'm sure they have a way of restraining the First Crackhead

in my heart i've always believed global thermonuclear war will start by accident & be started by the usa but we seem to have pretty good controls

we did survive the 80s & that's w. Mr. The Missiles Were Launched Five Minutes Ago Alzheimer Victim as our figurehead
