Donald Rumsfeld is ultimately responsible for what is rapidly becoming seen as a fiasco in Iraq. Bush tries to appear brave by hopping in for a two-hour photo op, but it merely underscores how dangerous and unsecure Iraq still is.
Rumsfeld can't duck blame, either. When Army Secretary Thomas White and Chief of Staff Eric Shinkesi tried to prevent a god-awful mistake, Rumsfeld fired them. The question now is what Bush can do about Rumsfeld.
Probably nothing. If he fires Rumsfeld it's an admission of failure. It's possible he wants to brazen it out till past the election, but he can't possibly keep Rumsfeld after that.

Amen to that! I think all of them are in so deep no one would risk firing anyone. If Rumsfeld goes, he will talk. If Condasleeza goes, she will talk. It will just get worse because not one of them knows what is going on. They will try to bluff it out until someone's heart finally thaws out and tells the truth. We are being led by a bunch of fools.

If Bush really wanted to fire Rumsfeld he could have somebody create a fake scandal. Dick Chenney and Karl Rove could find somebody to replace him. Bush has no reason to fire Rumsfeld.

Is it possible that to persuade some of his cabinet to come on board Bush had to promise not to fire them? I give credit to Paul O'Neill and Larry Lindsey for not blowing their tops at him. Bush had to do something about the economy, so he fired his economic advisers.
His "get-tough" military policy in Iraq may backfire. There's still a possibility that there will be a terrible day for our troops.

Considering this cabal relies heavily on Machiavelli they are fully aware of tehir option to create a scandal that would justify Rummy's departure from the Admin.
Of course this won't happen as they love him. Plus he's a spiteful little bitch and would run his mouth.
I think they'd have to create an "accident" just to be sure....
