Bush Can't Fire Rumsfeld [View All]

Donald Rumsfeld is ultimately responsible for what is rapidly becoming seen as a fiasco in Iraq. Bush tries to appear brave by hopping in for a two-hour photo op, but it merely underscores how dangerous and unsecure Iraq still is.

Rumsfeld can't duck blame, either. When Army Secretary Thomas White and Chief of Staff Eric Shinkesi tried to prevent a god-awful mistake, Rumsfeld fired them. The question now is what Bush can do about Rumsfeld.

Probably nothing. If he fires Rumsfeld it's an admission of failure. It's possible he wants to brazen it out till past the election, but he can't possibly keep Rumsfeld after that.
