1. I don't think we have one!
But I am sure if a new dad wanted to take the first six weeks off (or whatever the standard is) that would be fine. Problem is, most maternity leaves are without pay so it would be difficult for both parents to do it, I would imagine.

2. I Work For The Canadian Government
Parents are entitled to one year of leave for the birth or adoption of a child. They recieve full salary during this period and it applies to both mothers and fathers.

3. Holy back bacon! Where do I sign up, eh?
That's fantastic! My company allows new fathers to take off as much time as you want, but it comes out of their vacation. Alternatively, dads can invoke the "family leave" act and take off additional time, but of course that's without pay.

Very pro-family.

10. Two Things.........
I have never eaten back bacon. I have never said "eh". Got it?

Canadian law stipulates that all new parents recieve leave from work after the birth or adoption of a child. Most families split the leave. Mom takes the first six months, and Dad takes the remainder. My buddy Tony is going back to work next week after the birth of his second spawn. He took the entire year because his SO is self employed and therefore ineligible for the program.

That's how it works in Canada. Eh?

11. I'm from Canada too
Fathers get a few days off with pay at the birth/adoption of a child. I think it is 3-5 days. They are then eligible to take paternity leave. (Usually the mothers take the whole time, but sometimes fathers take part.)

It's not full pay though. It's part of our Employment Insurance program. I think it's about 2/3 of your salary. Some companies will top that up to full pay.

My company is really cheap when it comes to benefits btw, certainly not gold standard in Canada.

4. Cripes! How about maternity leave?
I used my two week vacation to have my first and another two week vacation to have my second. I was a part timer, 39 hours a week, and worked at home for my state's largest newspaper as a general assignment reporter. Two days before I had my first I was covering a murder in a nearby town where a kid killed his mother with a sock full of quarters stolen during a bank robbery. Because the murder involved a bank robbery, indirectly, the FBI was called in. After interviewing the agent, he asked me what the heck I was doing out at 10 PM in my condition. "Just making a living" I replied. True story.
