Canadian law stipulates that all new parents recieve leave from work after the birth or adoption of a child. Most families split the leave. Mom takes the first six months, and Dad takes the remainder. My buddy Tony is going back to work next week after the birth of his second spawn. He took the entire year because his SO is self employed and therefore ineligible for the program.

That's how it works in Canada. Eh?
