Just had a little earthquake almost right underneath me |
|
It was only a 2.6, but it was on the tiny Quien Sabe fault, which is less than three miles east of my house. http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Quakes/nc51202947.htmThe little red square at center left. I live between the 'H' and 'o' in "Hollister":

1. Awful lot of earthquakes lately, isn't there? |
|

7. No more than usual here |
|
In fact, we were overdue for one that could actually be felt.
I think it seems like there's more because there've been a few in areas that rarely get 'em.
So how you doin'? :hi:

There're natural hot springs there. The Franciscans who built the missions bathed in 'em.
It does not mean "the bathrooms."

I used to sit here in WI, smug in the knowledge that the midwest doesn't have quakes, but about a month ago there was a 5.2 near Chicago and they felt it all the way in southern WI. I'm not so smug anymore;)

11. Eh, no matter where you are |
|
there's gonna be somethin' to screw up your day.
I decided a long time ago I prefer earthquakes to other examples of Ma Nature's pissed-offedness because by the time you're scared, they're over. With most of 'em, like this one, you don't even get scared if you're a native. You just go "Good little shake" or whatever.
With tornadoes and hurricanes and floods and famine and pestilence and stuff, you've got warnings and alerts and all that junk that just makes the tension build.

14. We had earthquake weather all last week |
|
and I know it's gonna happen because I smoked all the emergency cigs and drank all the emergency booze and more than that, we dug into the emergency cat food. That was the last bit of hubis that cannot be mended.
So, if I don't show up to post the ERD, please tell Melissa G that it is completely my fault or at least, my nearest fault.

ain't no such thing as "earthquake weather."
:spank:
AlTHOugh... it did occur to me that since the heat wave's over, this quake was caused by the Earth cooling and thus shrinking.

is going to seize up like bacon in a hot pan.
WhatEVER. I'll have cable sports channels 'till the end.

18. No kidding, the first quake we had here, this bulding waved |
|
and I do mean, WAVED, in the breeze.
It was better than crashing and burning but still, your inner ear took weeks to recover. My consolation is that 15 surfer babies will run out of the building, shouting and screaming, ahead of me.
No telling what they'll leave behind.

19. A 2.6 is hardly more than a large truck driving past your house. |
|
They can still startle a person, though.

20. When it's 2.87 miles from your house |
|
it's a little more than that. More like a large truck falling from a tree in your back yard.
