Biggest Flops that Resulted from too Much Cocaine |
|
KISS' "The Elder" comes to mind, but I know there were so many more...
Zardoz also fits into that category, as well as the movie "Neighbors" with Belushi
Any other examples?

Most "classic" rock or any other popular music (except Punk) from the late 70's.
"Groove Tube" and "Kentucky Fried Movie"
Most of what Hunter S. Thompson wrote in the 80's.
Almost any prime-time drama TV show from 1975-1983.
LOL! Funny topic.

For one thing it kind of predates the really big days of cocaine.
If you have any proof of this, other than some internet bullshit ramblings that it is the only way it could have happened I would like to know.
Neighbors on the other hand. Cocaine for sure.

They had to have shot the entire effects budget on cocaine.
Yes, the movie is a bit cheap looking but honestly they didn't have any money.
Hell, according to Boorman, on the DVD commentary, Connery pocketed the per diem they paid for a driver and drove himself to the set. But he is a Scot after all.:-)

They may have sold lotsa records in their day, but so did Don Ho and Andy Williams.
There are bands who didnt have a fraction of their sales or radio-play that are still relevant.

26. the opposite is true with david bowie's 1975 release, "Young Americans" |
|
john lennon provided guitar and vocals on a few songs.
a young luther vandross (back up vocals) and david sanborn (sax) made appearances.
a not so famous bruce springsteen slept on couch in the lobby until someone brought him in to the studio.
bowie made this album almost entirely within an 8-10 day cocaine binge.
the same is true with the 1976 epic "STATIONTOSTATION," an oddly coherent and sublime meditation on the drug and its effects.

Young Americans has a few good tracks- but I find YA a weak effort and I find his other 70's records to be a bit more solid.
Even still, I own it on original vinyl, so I do like it.

61. I agree about Young Americans... |
|
I always call it "Bowie's Miles Davis Electric In The 70s Record" It was made under similar conditions to much of Davis' work at the time: massive amounts of cocaine ingested, deep funk grooves were laid down, and then the tracks were painstakingly assembled in post-production. It is a wonderful and woefully underrated record.
Also a great cover shot; Bowie looks like Princess Diana (if she were actually as pretty as her fans claim)

Hearing an 80 year woman make raw sexual double entendres is but one factor that makes this movie such a train wreck. It also features Dom DeLouise, Tony Curtis and Keith Moon coked up to the gills. The whole thing wraps up with Alice Cooper doing his best Barry Manilow impersonation. Just a bizarre film.

|
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 06:26 PM by Mike 03
Here are some others, although I'm sure I'm missing some great ones.
1. The unfilmable script "Noble Rot" written in four (?) days by Belushi and father Guido Sarducci, so horrible that it almost made Michael Eisner jump out of a plane. 2. "Caddyshack" from beginning to end. 3. John Landis' segment of the "Twilight Zone" movie, which resulted in three deaths by decapitation. 4. Jack Nicholson's boondoggle, "Goin' South" 5. "Days of Thunder."
On Edit:
Probably that Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd piece of shit "Spies like Us."
And, it wasn't a flop IMO, but critics panned it. To me, it's a classic: "The Blues Brothers."
For what it's worth, I attended a test screening of "Neighbors." It was incredible. They literally gave everyone a poster and a copy of the novel so that we'd fill out our opinion forms favorably, but the screening was a disaster.
