Thanksgiving Politics = Problems?
53 years old, divorced, pro-choice, anti-war and very liberal daughter meets parents and sister and her husband who are Republican, Catholic and very conservative for the holiday.

I NEVER start political discussions with the family but I can't take it when they start up with the Obama-bashing and the Limbaugh- parrot crap. Before I even go there I tell them, just like bar rules, no religion and no politics. They agree but my brother-in -law, especially, can't help but bring it up. Last year I spent most of the evening out on the porch smoking with my daughter (college student who they are convinced I brainwashed!) after they insisted on talking about the Obama birth certificate non-issue.

I'm giving it another try tomorrow. No religion, no politics. My attitude is that their views are losing and whatever they say doesn't make much difference in the large scheme of things. Still, it is not in my nature to nod in agreement with thoughts I really disagree with. Wish me luck.

Peace. Trust women.

2. Thanks, Suich!
Hoping for the best and dreading the worst. I love my parents but ultra-conservative brother-in-law, not. It drives him crazy that he is related (by marriage) to a person who actually voted against every Republican in every election, has demonstrated against war and participated in the Summer of Choice. The food should be good! I've decided I'll ignore any political commentary coming my way and I've told my daughter (who is much more vocal than me) to do the same. I anticipate that I'll hang in there and daughter will be taking a few smoke breaks to compose herself (she is with Campus Code Pink). Anyway, have a happy Thanksgiving yourself. Peace and love to you and your loved ones,
