They invented this "mid-season finale" thing, so at least wrap up some loose ends.

Rick used the pregnancy to plead with Herschel to let them stay on the farm. Otherwise,he insisted, they had to be out by the end of the week.

he talked tough with Shane. Insisted they were staying until Sophia was found.
Dale hid the guns so Shane wouldn't kill the walkers. Dale and Shane really hate each other now.
Herschel took Rick to rescue two stranded walkers. They brought those loops that dog catchers use.

|
I got home about 9:45 and turned it on - sat there stunned. I know Shane is borderline (?) nuts, but his point that someone who was simply 'ill' couldn't take bullets to the chest and still live hopefully got through to a (no doubt) shell-shocked Hershel.

Not even now. Glenn is right -- they're just plain dangerous, and that's the bottom line. Herschel can't lock all the walkers in his barn.

30. Yeah, they certainly did. |
|
Yikes.
Although in hindsight, that was always a possibility.
However, Hershel never mentioned finding her, even after the secret of the barn was found out, so I just assumed she was still lost in the woods.
Of course now Hershel and Sophia's mom are now devastated.

26. Well Rick finally proved his manhood (spoiler) |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-27-11 10:42 PM by Duer 157099
when he finally pulled his gun on a little girl walker! Was that intended irony or what?
I don't recall seeing any children walkers earlier in the season, were there? I began to think that maybe child walkers were different, that they could somehow be saved.
Guess not.
Intense episode, and glad Darrell finally said what I was thinking about how they weren't really looking for Sophia too seriously. Also: I'm convinced that the CDC guy told Rick that Lori was pregnant, which is why he seemed to know before she told him, and he took it in stride. And the baby IS Shane's.

So the only thing for him to do was end it rather than leaving it for someone else.

He had to have known/strongly suspected that the missing girl was in the barn. I can see wanting to keep the barn secret, but even after the secret got out he didn't say anything. He was willing to let the group go down the road without ever knowing what happened to her daughter.

And besides, he didn't know what Sophia looked like so even if he knew there was a little girl, how would he know it was her?
I still think it's weird that almost all of the walkers are adults.

33. Well, if you find a 'tween female walker... |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 12:13 AM by krispos42
...and then a day later ten people come to your farm saying one of their own was shot while looking for a lost girl, you should be able to put two and two together to get four.
I think he thought he had to keep Sophia the walker a secret so the group would move on. I think that's why he was pushing for them to leave, even though it was obvious that the farm would need manpower to plant and crow crops in an environment without modern farming tools such as fertilizers, tractors, insecticide, and high-yield seed.
Once he didn't tell them immediately, he was trapped on the path of continuing to hide her from them, both to protect his initial duplicity and to protect his secret in the barn.
I suppose he could have salvaged his position by somehow separating Sophie the walker out of the barn herd and letting her free, to be discovered by the sentry on top of the RV, but that operation would have risk of discovery.

on the farm without him knowing about it. While he didn't know what Sophia looked like however, a little girl is put in the barn around the same time that a group of people are looking for a missing girl. I don't think it would have required Sherlock Holmes to make the connection.

50. I thought the ending was brilliant because it completely turned Shane's arguement on its head |
|
Shane's whole breakdown/arguement was that the zombies are just that: zombies/walkers. They aren't people. They are mindless, killing machines. So he had no problem shooting Hershel's neighbors and family right in front of him.
But then Sophia comes out and suddenly Shane's arguement is flipped. Now that walker is someone that HE/HIS group cares about. All that bravado that accompanied the massacre is gone and Rick is now the only one capable of actually shooting Sophia.
I loved that the Walking Dead made you actually care about the zombies as they were being massacred. And that's what happened, it was a massacre. So far, only George Romero has done a movie where you actually cared about the zombies (Land of the Dead).

The female zombie that was shot in the face with her teeth showing was Hershel's wife.
I can understand Shane's point of view but you have to have some control over youself.
What would we do if we had to live with zombies, I would shoot them.
