than anyone who thinks God really gives a shit what happens with a damn football game.

Hell in our loss to New England, Vince Young (who is now QBing for the Eagles) passed for 400 yards and rushed another 40. And yet the NFL is slobbering over a man who only passed for 143 yards and ran for 3. But because they beat a below average team like the Chargers instead of losing to the playoff bound New England Patriots, everyone is having relgious fevor orgasms over Tim Tebow.

Really?

The guy has an 80.7 QB rating with a total of 852 yards in 9 games. Hell in 4 games Vince Young has done 658 yards, which is way more impressive. Shame he's on a team that is disorganized like this years Eagles.

To all those religious assholes who think God is some how blessing Tim Tebow - they should have watched 60 Minutes last night and saw the interview with dozens of children in central Florida who live in cars. I would think God has bigger things to worry about than football.

What's sad is that Rick Scott and the republicans will do everything in their power to supress the votes from those who are homeless.

I'm sure Florida will make it impossible for the homeless to vote. As if they have no right to be heard, really, no right to exist. Which is where this is going...

Scott Olsen said it... 'the right to exist...' Even injured, he's got his head on better than half the the governors.

4. Take that Vince Young comparison further.
Vince Young and Tebow have a lot of similarities. They were both great college QBs, both won national titles, both are mobile and can run the ball. And both have strong winning records even when having average or bad games.

Yet Tebow is a phenom, whereas Young is ignored, if not outright insulted.

I don't personally care if Tebow wants to praise Jesus or Allah or Squiggy the Wonder Worm, honestly. His fifteen minutes will last through this year, given the soft schedule the Broncos play and the strength of their defense and their offensive line (Tebow hasn't won anything for the team, he's just been there). In fact, in some ways I'm looking forward to how he handles failure. Will he thank God when he embarrasses the team? Will he give God the glory people are calling for his benching in favor of a player to be named later? I don't really care to see the guy struggle or fail, I just want to see how he handles it. His praise and his religious belief, like his game, is a souffle.

What I care about is why he gets the attention? Young is a better QB, a better athlete, and, like Tebow, has a way of just winning games no matter what happens. Why hasn't he gotten the hype? He was passed over for the Heisman for a pretty white guy who had worse numbers than him, and who he beat in the championship game. He had rumors about his low IQ and his bad Wunderlick test scores, even though I'm sure he's no less intelligent than Tebow. And Vince Young even praises his God after his victories, though with a lot less fanfare and self-aggrandizement than Tebow. When Young praises God, I think he's praising some distant being he believes in. When Tebow praised God, I feel like he's praising himself instead.

Race, pretty white boy image, blatant and loud conservative politics, all seem more the cause behind Tebow's reputation than anything he does on the field. He's got a small, racist, conservative group all fired up and wanting to promote him, for all the wrong reasons. When his football career goes belly up, next year probably, he'll wind up on the motivational circuit praising Jesus for his success, then he'll move into politics, abandoning each of his endeavors as his skills fail him and his religious momentum runs out. He'll have a financially comfortable life, all because he's white, male, loud, and most importantly, part of that conservative gang.

Tebow's young. He's still a kid, so I don't hold his exuberance against him. Recovered alcoholics are the loudest anti-drinkers, and all that. I don't really care what he says or does with his religion, any more than I care that Michael Irvin slept with strippers and snorted coke. What bothers me is the way the NFL and the media react to it. That says a lot of nasty things, to me.

10. I'm starting to believe in Vince Young. I supported Vick but I knew he was an interim QB
Between Jarowski to Cunningham

and

Between Cunningham to McNabb

The Eagles will be stuck with a few QBs that will play a season or 2 or maybe a game or 2 but never really stick with the team. Michael Vick was probably the best of those QB who came between the great Eagles Quarterbacks but because of his age I never expected him to be the new long term QB of the team.

The Eagles sucked yesterday but that wasn't because of Vince Young - he did 400 yards yesterday against a very strong team. I think we have our guy.

But I'm about 90% sure of that.

26. As long as Young can keep his head in the game, he can get it done
The problem when he was with the Titans was that his attention tended to wander -- not cool when your're facing an NFL defense.

41. If he can learn to run an NFL offense, and they give him the reign to improvise,
he can be a great QB. I think he's the most talented athlete in the NFL. He runs like a running back, he throws like the best quarterbacks, he is stronger than most defensive lineman--I saw him get sacked once by two defenders, and by the time the whistle stopped blowing Vince was standing and the two who had sacked him were lying at his feet--and he has that indefinable quality of leadership that just wins games when he has a chance.

But he's a head case when things don't go well for him. The most important person on staff for the Eagles could be the team therapist. If they could find someone to keep Young from collapsing, they'd be worth every penny.

Dang, I wish he'd have gone to Houston. The Texans are half a quarterback away from a good playoff run, and Young is a hero still in Houston.

The religiosity is a turn off, granted. But you gotta admire his work ethic and his will to win. Maybe he's a great quarterback, maybe not. But the Broncos have been winning with him.

Do I LIKE him? Not really. But I do respect him.

Its crap like THAT this whole kissy-kissy HES TEH GREATEST EVER crap that really turns me off. Also, his public anti-choice campaign along with the religiosity. Did no one ever mention that in the Jewish tradition its considered really wrong to pray in secular places? You are supposed to do that at home or at temple. So he's pretty much going to offend many with his "Tebowing". Can't stand the guy. Can't stand the cult of personality around him. :barf:

Vince Young passed for 400 yards, rushed for another 40 and scored two touchdowns against a team that is about 20 times better (The New England Patriots).

Had the Eagles been playing the Chargers and the Broncos playing the Patriots you probably would have seen an Eagles rout against the Chargers and Tebow looking like a failure against the Patriots.

Tebow didn't win that game - the Bronco field goal kicker did.

43. They'd be winning better with a good quarterback.
Cracks me up--Tony Romo has some of the best stats of any modern quarterback, yet everyone blames him for every loss, despite the fact that the Cowboys have a rookie offensive line, an injury-prone wide receiver corp, a below-average running back (until recently), and no defensive secondary. And then you have the Broncos, who hold high powered offenses to almost no points, who run over 50 times for 200 yards, who win games when a running back follows a great offensive line for a 24 yard gain to put the team in field goal position to win the game on a kick that Tebow had nothing to do with--and everyone praises Tebow as the guy who knows how to win.

Tebow's religious stuff doesn't offend me any more than anyone else's does, but his getting credit for some great football plays he has nothing to do with does. :)

9. That's not a Jewish thing. Jesus told us the same exact thing when he taught people the Lord's Pray
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+6%3A5-7&version=NIV

Matthew 6:5-8
New International Version (NIV)
Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Lord's Prayer starts at Matthew 6:9

So not only did Jesus teach us the Lord's Prayer but felt it was important that before he teach it to us, that he teach us to pray in private too.

11. Time to start hating the hype around Tebow
I don't have much against Tebow himself other than he's simply a self promoter who comes up short in the talent department. So the problem with the hype is it allows Tebow to secure lucrative endorsement deals over other players who actually do deserve the hype.

22. The same happened with Romo for a while
The difference being Romo actually did put up good numbers which leads you to believe he was more responsible for those wins. I don't know of too many NFL QBs in recent memory that were consistently successful while maintaining less than a 50% pass completion rate, but perhaps Tebow will be the exception.

23. Look, I know what it's like to cheer on a QB that alot of people find annoying
But he's a crappy Quarterback. Had Tebow been the QB yesterday with the Eagles that provided no offense or defense whatsoever, Tebow would have been swallowed up whole and spit out by the Patriot defense. He would have looked wretchedly bad. And had Young been the QB for the Broncos yesterday against a mediocre team like the Chargers - the Broncos would have won in a rout.

Young showed way more potential yesterday than Tebow did and if I was building my team I'd go with the guy who has showed in the NFL that he can throw for 300 yards a game and run too than the guy that happened to luck out by getting his field goal team close enough to the endzone to score 3 points.

I mean the Eagles suck this year but we had some wins against the teams that count (Like Giants and Cowboys).

I'm not even sure if Young is the QB of the future. I think he has potential but the fact that he's been in the league 5 years is going to hurt him.

Personally I think it's time for a new coach. Andy Reid had some success in Philly but time for us to part ways.

Tebow is thanking his god for blessing him, for giving him such a great life. He's not saying God helps him win games, he's just thanking God for the good stuff in his life. When a believer (and I'm not one) thanks God for saving them from a plane crash, they aren't thanking God for the plane crash or for killing those who don't, only for them being the lucky ones who survived it.

52. This is a riot.
I'm not a particularly religious man, never cared for the Broncos as a team. Patriots fan myself. I honestly just cannot seem to find it within myself to get all worked up and bothered about what that Tebow kid does on on the field in regards to his belief. Way I see it, that's between him and God. If one is a Christian, they probably find themselves asking for a bit of an assist from the Big Man Upstairs when something important comes up, like a medical test or procedure, court case, school exam, golf putt, etc. Can't find fault with them. Sure as shit wouldn't cheer on a dog abuser (nee former, thanks) in spite of them or anyone else. Person has his or her beliefs and I just can't care to get involved (unless they're letting those beliefs trump someone else rights like marriage or abortion). I suppose one can dislike his displays of it, or the media for being idiots (the shock!). But the day the media's coverage of the wrong news or football player causes me to even consider cheering for a dirtbag fuckwad like Mikey "Dog Torture is My Middle Name" Vick, it's just time to take some inventory of myself.

And I saw the part of 60 Minutes last night that you're speaking of. You're right, it was very upsetting and you'd think God (were He going to intervene somewhere) would do so in other ways that making Tebow successful.

60. Check the Broncos' defensive stats.
Their defense has been playing much better - 45 points allowed in the last three games. They got a couple of Pro Bowl defenders (Duberville and Bailey) back from injury about the same time Teblow took over at what he thinks is QB. If Denver had the same D they had in the first few games they would still be getting beaten like a gong on a weekly basis. The team's improvement has everything to do with defense and nothing to do with Teblow.

61. When I see a score like 16-13, I know it's the defense that is doing the good work

62. Yeppers. In today's pass-happy NFL
you don't see those kinds of scores much anymore.

66. I'm a dog person, so I don't like what happened with Vick, but..
Edited on Sun Dec-04-11 12:30 PM by mvd
I've tried to focus on results on the field, which have been really disappointing. I think Vick, because of his contract, stays another year or two - but we need to draft a good, young QB. I would start over with a lot of things including the coaching.
