If you had 5 million to give to charity where would you send it? I'd give
it to SOS Children's villages. They put 5 orphans with an adoptive mom and clothe , feed and school them. If it cost $1000 a year for 20 years, and you have 5 million, that is a healthy childhood for 250 kids. I can dream can't I?

1. I'd give plenty to free clinics here in the US to provide medical
services for those without access to care. At least two million would go there.

I'd give to Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF so they could continue their good work worldwide. That would account for another 1.5 million.

I would spend the last 1.5 million on establishing community resources to assist the elderly in my area with mental health issues. When my late father was suffering from dementia, I was unable to find help for him locally. I would love to be in a position to change that.

2. Both my parents are suffering from a bit of dementia. Fortunately I am in Canada
and the medical system is really great. Plus my parents can afford care. I remind myself how lucky I am every day.

3. You are fortunate. Mental health services are practically non-existent
here in the US except for the very rich or those whose insurance will pay for it. Most people are simply out of luck.

4. I would give it to the kids and families in my hometown
and a few towns in the surrounding area that need the help.
They need the $$$.

There are some very poor families in CT. The perception is that everyone that lives in CT is rich. That's not the case for so many that live in this state.

7. With 5 million to give, I would realize 'how great the need' and how
inadequate my $5 million is compared to the need.

Then *I* might consider how it came to be this way....and use my money not so much to 'stop the bleeding', but to 'stop the cutting/cutters ~ that cause the bleeding in the first place'.

9. A battered womens' shelter, homeless mens' shelter, food bank, orphanage, and randomly hand out rest
The four I mentioned are ones we have donated to in the past. The extra million would be nice pocket change to just hand out to people who look like they need it.
