You might have to wait a while.

If your team isn't SEC they're just second class citizens as far as those assholes are concerned.
The sooner their corrupt reign comes to an end the better :grr:

6. Oklahoma State slaughters Alabama on the strength of schedule |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-05-11 12:12 AM by WildEyedLiberal
It's a travesty that they are not in the national title game. I have absolutely no idea why the SEC is held in such high regard despite having such a creampuff schedule. For every LSU they play an Ole Miss. What a joke.
ETA: And I'm a Big Ten fan, so I have no dog in this fight. Talk about a conference that gets shat on by the dittohead powers that be...

Strength of schedule and won our conference outright by beating the Sooners to a bloody pulp. That was one of the hardest hitting games I've seen in a long time. I almost felt sorry for the Sooners being on the receiving end of it.

13. That's because if your team isn't SEC they ARE second class citizens! |

The SEC is simply the toughest, best conference in the country. Deal with it.
And no, I'm NOT a 'Bama fan.

It has 3 or 4 decent teams and a bunch of mediocre teams that lose to the 3-4 decent teams so that said decent teams can build up their stats and convince the sports media that they're better than they are. The SEC is just the latest national sports media darling, and their mediocrity would be exposed posthaste if there were any sort of legitimate national championship system (say, a playoff) in college football.

Shouldn't you have to win your conference subdivision (never mind your conference) before being allowed to play for the national championship? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Why can't we have a playoff? (Jim Mora: "Playoffs? Don’t talk about playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs?")
Anyway, why not? Don't tell me that it would put too much stress on the athletes. The FCS does it. Div II does it and so does Div III. The NAIA manages it. So does the NFL and the CFL and the NFL Europe used to do it. High School does it. In fact high school is in the middle of doing it right now.
So why can't the FBS do it?

Playoffs would be the right thing to do without a doubt.
But as it stands, Oklahoma State rightfully belongs in the championship game, not Alabama. We got fucked plain and simple :(

In my mind, Alabama eliminated themselves from the national championship when they failed to win their conference or even their subdivision. I don't care what the polls say. And what would a rematch prove anyway? Wouldn't they have to win two out of three? :)

And if indeed "the entire season is a playoff" , as I've heard it put, wouldn't that mean Alabama was eliminated when they lost to LSU and failed to win their conference?
No doubt I'm biased since I attended college at Oklahoma State, but that team worked their ass off and played a damn hard schedule of hell for leather football this year. A hell of a lot harder than Bama's schedule and they topped it off by beating the Sooners like a rented mule. I guess you have to be from Oklahoma to really understand how hard that last feat was to pull off but, dammit, we deserve to be there...

9. Well, Oklahoma State did have that one loss to unranked Iowa State (6-6). |
|
Alabama's one loss was to LSU, as you have noted. I can see both sides of the argument but I don't think the BCS folks are being unfair in this particular case.
I would like to see a playoff like they have in basketball but I rarely see people promoting that unless it's just after the bowl game selections have been made.

10. There was a pretty good reason for that loss |
|
Two coaches from the OSU women's basketball team were killed in a plane crash the day before. The entire athletic dept at OSU is like a big close knit family.
Other than that loss OSU performed brilliantly all season long. The fucking BCS can munch my buttcrack.

14. Strength of schedule? Really? |

Did they play a SINGLE SEC TEAM? SEC's the toughest conference in the nation, and OK ST didn't have to play 'em.
That is all.

21. What a silly argument |
|
Bama played something like THREE teams with winning records. OKST played 7. Bama played far fewer teams who'd ever been in the Top 25 than OKST did. Even with the national media overrating the SEC teams and giving them inflated rankings they don't deserve, Oklahoma State STILL played a tougher ranked schedule. There is no justification for Alabama to have spent that much time being ranked #2 considering who they played all season, let alone after Oklahoma State proved week after week that they could beat superior competition.
Just saying "The SEC is the best" hardly makes it so, and any actual analysis of the records of the teams Oklahoma State and Alabama beat shows definitively that OKST had the tougher schedule.

11. I was thinking earlier today that they ought to put OSU and Bama in one of those very |
|
early bowls that nobody has ever heard of (the Beef o Brady Bowl? WTF?) and let that decide who plays in the NC game. It wouldn't be fair to the teams originally slated for that bowl, of course, but they could make it a double-header...

because somebody thought Virginia Tech would make them more $$$ even though they got waxed in their title game, by a team that had lost four of five coming in, no less. :eyes:
