Tell your Representatives- Do not pass The Heil Hitler Amendment!
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 12:02 PM by IanDB1
As we all know, the Repukes like to send subtle (and not so subtle) messages to the Christo-fascist bigots-- what they call, "their base," or, translated into Arabic, their "Quaeda."

For example, when presented with a portrait of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Der Chimpenfuhrer (who the Repukes call 'President' (sic) Bush) proclaimed, "I can't wait to hang it."

Another example is when Tony Snow, at his first White House Press Conference, managed to sneak-in the word "Tarbaby" during the Q&A.

Well, here's another not-so-subtle message to The Republican Quaeda:

House Joint Resolution 88. (H.J. Res. 88) The Heil Hitler Amendment.

This number, widely used by neo-Nazis and others, is shorthand for "Heil Hitler." H is the eighth letter of the alphabet, and so the abbreviation H.H. is translated as 88.

And from Wikipedia:

Sometimes the slogan is spraypainted or used to deface property in order to mark "turf" in prisons and other urban areas (often stylized as 14W), so it can be considered a gang symbol as well. It is sometimes combined with '88' as in '14/88', '1488' or '8814'. The '88' stands for the eighth letter of the alphabet twice, or 'HH', the initials of Heil Hitler. '88' can also stand for the book '88 Precepts' <1> by David Lane.

In the book Werewolf: The History of the National Socialist Movement of 1944 to 1946, Perry Biddiscombe writes that "Members of this 1946 Nazi resistance movement established a number of arms caches, and they used the '88' greeting". <2>

Coincidence?

Maybe.

But it's certainly an accurate description of the spirit in which it was written and promoted.

But it's a new framing-- they call it "marriage protection," but what can we call it?

We can call it "The Heil Hitler Act." HJR 88.

The House vote on the so-called Marriage Protection Amendment is expected to take place next week. Since the Amendment has already failed in the Senate, the House vote will have no effect. However, the debate and vote are proceeding, apparently to appease the religious right.

Please visit our Web site for the Secular Coalition's analysis of this action by the House. We also provide a sample letter you can use when contacting your Representative: http://www.secular.org/activism/marriageprotection06.html
