Six anti-war activists arrested in Lakewood (WA)

... Lakewood Police spokeswoman Heidi Hoffman said two women and one man were arrested for disorderly conduct and failure to disperse late Friday at the Berkeley Street Southwest overpass over Interstate 5. Two men and one woman were arrested for failure to disperse early Saturday at the North Thorne Lane Southwest I-5 exit to the military Logistics Center, she said.

Some 900 vehicles - Strykers, trucks and Humvees - are being convoyed to Fort Lewis following the return of the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division Strykers after more than a year in Iraq. The vehicles and other gear arrived at the Port of Tacoma last week aboard the USNS Brittin.

The Olympia Port Militarization Resistance and other groups object to the use of public ports for the shipment of materiel for what they call an illegal and immoral war.

1. My nephew was there.
He's 17, and went down to Tacoma with his friends last night to protest at the port. They finished around 4am this morning. I'm proud of the kid.

3. I did. I had to make sure he wasn't one of the persons arrested, LOL.

He went to the gay pride parade as well to show his support. I knew his mom did a great job when he dressed up as John Lennon for Halloween when he was 12. I adore him. This is a kid who was mercilessly taunted at school for having a 'Kerry' sticker on his notebook, and daring to have liberal views when his mom lived in a shit-hole conservative town. Some bully kept smacking him in the hallway, so he told the kid he wouldn't fight him on the school grounds, but if he wanted to fight after school, they could arrange a time and place to meet. The bully never showed up. This was when he was 11, I think. Needless to say, he's thriving in Seattle.
