Can they revote? Or are they just screwed?

1. Last mailing day was last week
I think Thursday. But you're told to drop the ballot off at the drop box if you don't get it in the mail. It's on all the news, all over the place, all the time. Everybody who votes today or tomorrow will drop ballots off. Anything that comes in the mail on Wednesday isn't counted.

sites. We mailed in our ballots about 10 days ago. People who don't have their ballots postmarked correctly are out of luck. It's just the same as if you went on Wednesday morning to your polling place, which was open only until Tuesday at 8 PM.

It's a pretty long sequence, and there are public service announcements about it on local stations. Perhaps this might explain the process to you better. It's the lead story on Tuesday's election:

Oregon turnout expected to top 1 million

Officials predict a ballot downpour today, but primary totals probably will fall short of the 1968 record

The Oregonian Staff

An election-day voter stampede is expected to propel Oregon's highest primary turnout in 20 years, state officials projected Monday.

More than 800,000 voters cast ballots in the vote-by-mail election as of Monday, and elections officials predicted another 250,000 will drop off their ballots before today's 8 p.m. deadline.

I love it!

You guys always have the best turnouts. I remember Howard Dean had a huge rally there too.

6. OK. In 2004, there was a big rally for Kerry. My husband attended that one.
It wasn't as big as this one.

However, you must remember that most of the population of Oregon lives west of the Cascade Mountains in the Willamette Valley, which runs north and south. The biggest cities are there: Portland, Corvallis, Eugene, Salem.

Everything to the east of those high mountains is different in climate (high desert and wilderness areas) and comparatively sparsely populated.

8. Hey, no worries. There is a LOT of geography that I don't comprehend...
Luckily, we moved to Portland, Oregon, ten years ago, and I'm pretty well acclimated now.

However, there are still parts of the city that I don't know about. Even though we're timeshare owners in Las Vegas, NV and Honolulu, HI, I still don't know that much about THOSE locations.

I do hope you get the chance to travel in your life. We've been very lucky -- healthy -- and so far, at least enough wealth to do some magnificant travel.

Peace, love and happiness,
