Over the past 18 months, opponents have been spewing lies and telling half truths about health reform. Their goal, - to do whatever it took to prevent reform from being passed, at least not any reform that they didn't approve of.
Before the reforms were passed it was much easier for them to tell lies about what would happen because there was no way to absolutely disprove it. But, now that it's law, the longer that time goes on, more parts of the reform will kick in, they are petrified that people will begin to see that the sky is not falling, and that the lies and twisted facts are just that, lies and twisted facts, meant to scare people into inaction.
Here are some of the lies that Republicans need to explain as they're disproven - any other lies?
*the reform didn't create death panels. *the reform did not create a government plan that people will buy - insurance will still come from private insurance companies, now and in 2014. *the insurance purchased through the health exchanges will also be provided by private insurers *the exchanges are only for people who don't aren't covered under a group insurance plan *if you have insurance through the exchanges you're not prohibited from being covered by group insurance in the future *the reform is not going to put private insurers out of business. If private insurers even thought that was a remote possibility they'd be screaming. *it's not a government takeover of their health care. Your insurance is private, your doctors are private. *health benefits are not being taxed just because their value is going to be listed on your W2 form. *employers are not going to drop health insurance as a benefit, en masse, and choose to pay a penalty instead. If that were the case, why haven't they done it already without paying any penalty? *the reform doesn't tell any private insurer that they can't cover a drug or procedure or set a maximum limit for coverage. It does tell insurers what they must cover - if insurers want to sell coverage that covers more, they're free to do so *Congress isn't exempt from the reforms - in fact the reform REQUIRES senators and representatives to buy their insurance through the new health exchanges or buy insurance that fully complies to the insurance rules for the exchanges
Now, some people here may not like the fact that the public option, medicare for all, or a single payer system wasn't created. But it's a change. A change that will show that the opponents of reform will say whatever it takes to keep the status quo. Why do you think they want to repeal and then "work" on replace. They can't let people see the lies. Maybe medicare for all, single payer, or a public option will happen some day. But at least, in the meantime, this will help expose the lies that Republicans were telling. This way, if a movement for single payer comes around in the future, and Republicans start lying again, the public can be reminded about how they were lied to in the past.
