Contrast Obama's Birth Certificate "issue" coverage vs. |
|
Bush's alcoholism ...
wasn't Bush's alcoholism and drinking covered by the media pretty much as "Hey, it was addressed in the campaign, it's a non-issue."?
The media didn't sit there, 6 months after Bush was sworn in, entertaining people on the major cable and radio programs, with them saying "Is Bush still drinking?" (on a related note, when Obama revealed that he had tried cocaine, a media personality was wondering if a person who used drugs ever stopped ... without even being slightly honest about the possibility that Bush never stopped drinking and that he had it covered up)
Speculation of Bush drinking was limited to the "fringe", blogs ... with no speculators being invited to the major cable "news providers" to air their concerns that Bush was drunk ...

by the number and extremity of Double Standards that so many people have invoked for Bush. I know that we all tend to be more lenient toward the side we support, but this is just mind-blowing. I know I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before, but it's just bizarre that millions of people who thought that Bill Clinton should be tar-and-feathered for getting a blowie or smoking a joint in the 60s were willing to give Bush carte blanche for...well...ANYTHING. I know there aren't as many of them as there were 7 years ago, but there's still a decent number of chumps out there who have an almost religious commitment to the idea that Bush was the greatest leader of the last fifty years. Just too weird.
