The Republicans sent me a questionnaire today |
|
Yes, me. Lifelong Democrat, fairly liberal, occasional French-speaking little ol' moi. I was surprised, but I read the letter and looked over the questionnaire. I've posted it here, along with my response: http://www.geocities.com/asheville4kerry/yellow_dog.html

Those things get billed back to the RNC. Remember: every little bit hurts!

I got another one a couple of days ago. Can't wait to give it back to them. Maybe I can send them the card of a local Amway representative? Or maybe a drawing for a free weekend at a timeshare?

"Do not discard under penalty. Property of the Republican Party."
It had a number and everything.
That was a certain invitation for me to throw it in the trash!
I kept it long enough to show my son and his girlfriend, so they could get a good laugh, too.
Now I wish I still had it to show everyone here.
Did anyone else get a numbered questionnaire, with that warning?

6. I just looked it over, but no warning. |
|
However, the word "liberal" was used "liberally" throughout the letter as if it were the word "axe-murderer" or something.
The only good thing is that Ed Gillespie signed it. Now if only I can find his checkbook...

Property of the Republican Party??
What will be the penalty and what law covers it?
Gee... once they mail me something it becomes MY property to do as I see fit.
If it is their property then they shouldn't have mailed it out.

Is it something like a Republican Census? I got one in the mail the other day. When I opened it and read the first line, "Dear fellow Republican," I almost fell over. I didn't know if it was a mistake or a joke of some kind.
I am a registered Democrat, I have been since I was old enough to vote and voted for Clinton in 1996. Where do these people get the idea that I am Republican? maybe they are just sending these things out and hoping people will say, "I'm Republican? Oh. well. Why not?
I have also gotten two Bush-and-Laura pictures in the mail, again calling me a fellow Republican. My wife got at one before I did and threw it away, but I kept the other in my study. I carefully pinned it up on the wall, posted alongside it a printout of the famous Bush resume.

It's not "SDI", or "President Bush's current plan for strategic defense", its "President Reagan's (deceased the last time I checked) SDI Defense Shield". If they have to sell this based on fond memories from 20 years ago, how much real support can there be?

At first glance, I thought this was further proof that the Repubs only listen to money.
But after more mature reflection, I realize it is just a sleazy fundraising gimmick, intended to play off the hopes of gullible Americans that the Repubs indeed will hear their voices.
Perhaps by late September, the Repubs will be telling folks that W has found a big brown paper bag full of cash, which he will happily share if they will merely put up several thousand dollars in "good faith money."

I have got one similar to that an others similar laufing me for be a loyal republican, and urging me to stay loyal. Where they get the idea is beyond me. I have wondered if maybe my name is on a donor list of theirs somewhere, but who exactly gave the money in my name ? That would seem to be illegal, but totally typical of them. Maybe they look our names up, se we are small contributors to dems. Then some Daddy warbucks in the GOP gives a $1000 to the gop in our name? It would be illegal to sign our name though, woudn't it. Some day I guess I have to look on www.opensecrets.org and see if my name is there as a gop donor ? That would piss me off if that is what they are doing. But, I think if that is it it would be safe to say that their arm that mails these types of things out is not aware of their 'ghost' donor operation.

We have a lovely (not) signed photograph of * and Pickles at the inauguration and he's received a number of other stupid things (though not the census - I'm jealous). I can't imagine where they get his name - the only thing I can think of is from his gun registrations.

Sure enough, it was some schmuck from the Republican Party. He says, "Hi! I'm calling Republicans today."
She says, "We're not Republicans." He says, "I'm sorry to hear that." She says, "I'm not sorry at all," and hung up on the sorry SOB.
Man, I love her.

19. My husband got a sweet letter from W, with a free 8x10! |
|
So, I opened the envelope, laughed at the contents (why did they think he was a Republican?), drew horns, a mustache, and a goatee on Dubya, and stuck in all back in the envelope for my husband to discover. He was so disgusted that he shoved the whole mess back into the reply envelope and sent it back. He didn't notice anything unusual about Dubya's devil face until I pointed it out to him. }(
