North Korea Threatens Missle Attack On Guam and Hawaii
This story is being reported in newspapers around the Pacific rim, yet the U.S. mainstream media and the Bush administration has shown a remarkable degree of restraint. Perhaps the news regarding the earthquakes in Hawaii and Papua New Guinea are grabbing all the headlines. I guess we should applaud the Bush administration and the mainstream media for not using North Korea's fiery rhetoric to justify a build up in the region.

Afterall, its not like the Bush administration would ignore an obvious threat to our Nation's security. We should disregard the empty North Korea's empty rhetoric about attacks, missle firings and nuclear tests. I trust that the Bush administration has weighed the threat and accurately determined that its not credible, hence no word of this alleged threat in Austrailia's press.

An unofficial spokesman for North Korea in Japan, Kim Moyong Choi, during an interview with ABC Radio Australia yesterday, said North Korea may attack Guam, Japan and Hawaii if tougher sanctions are levied against the country.

North 'ready to fight'

North Korea is raising its level of rhetoric against the United States as international pressure increases on Pyongyang.

The North's unofficial spokesman in Tokyo, Kim Myong Chol, says North Korea may attack Japan and the US if tougher sanctions are imposed on his country.

Mr Kim claims North Korea may test a hydrogen bomb in a show of force.

He says his country would begin by attacking US military bases in the Asia-Pacific region and on the US mainland.

"We consider the UN resolution as an act of war," he said.

"We are ready to fight with America.

"We attack America, we attack US bases where ever in the areas...Japan, Guam, Hawaii and the US mainland."

2. UN sanctions are always so successful, NOT.
Aren't sanctions the equivalent of poking a junk yard dog with a stick through rickety fence slats?
The sanctions include military technology and 'Luxury Items?"
I have a new diplomacy idea. How about when the political ass hats who make the decisions
are made to suffer and not the poor people caught in the middle who haven't a clue?
Guess we could just march right in to NK like we did in Iraq yeah?.. Or Is it different somehow as in completely?
The Chimp in Chief is as out of his element here as a fruit fly in a bowl of kimchi.

3. This begs a few questions
The most important is, if we invaded Iraq, then why are we not invading North Korea? They are being far more hostile than Iraq was in 2002 and have far more dangerous weapons and a vastly more formidable army. Is it because the bush administration has learned something about preemptive action? Is it because we are out of available military power? Is if because they don't have any oil? Is it because they didn't threaten the president's daddy 10 years ago? What exactly is the difference?

The second question that needs to be asked is what does it tell us when Kim Jong Il is mouthing off at us and obviously has no respect for us or fear of us? Should this tell us how much of a joke we have become after 6 years of president bush's ridiculously inept leadership?

The third thing I wonder is are republicans serious about "getting tough" on N Korea or is this all election year bluster? If it is all bluster, then this is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Even more pathetic than Tom Dashele and others trying to act tough on Iraq in 2002, when most of them honestly thought it was a bad idea. If they are serious - some of them want to hit and hit hard - are they totally discounting China and the possibility of a land war with China right in their back yard? That is a seriously bad idea. Not to mention S Korea and Japan could be devastated by N Korea's fire power? This is more complicated than Sean Hanitty and Newt Gingrich want to make it. Those dumb bastards would have us in WWIII and WWIV simultaneously before Halloween if they were in charge and for little to no reason.

4. Perhaps the U.S. Will Attack Some Other Paper Tiger . . .
Like the Falkland Islands or something under the idea that we attack everyone before they even begin developing nuclear weapons, rather than those mean nasty countries that are actually developing. The lesson of the Iraq war - Develop nuclear weapons, and the U.S. will leave you alone. Don't develop nuclear weapons, and risk attack. Yup, I feel sooo much safer with Bush in the White House...not.

6. He's an idiot
We already illegally conquered Hawai'i i the 19th century, and when we took back Guam from the Japanese we seized every hectare of land the Japanese military had help, which is the prime areas of the island.

The oldest Christian Church in Asia is a ruin on that island because they won't rebuild and reconsecrate it after we tortured Chimorro people to pressure them to accept our three branch form of government over that they traditionally had in the way of governance.

We are unpopular on Guam, and one should not be alone with Chimorro crowds like at their beaches, it is bad for one's health.

In the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, we have allowed sweat shops with poorly paid women working long hours for bad pay living in same gender barracks.

You see, products manufactured in the Pacific Island Protectorate gets the "Made in U.S. A. label and no duty for import.

The Spanish killed every male Chimorro when conquering that archipelago of islands. They have mixed blood and we enslave and whore out those people making them our bitch so we can have bases there.

The joke is on this joke of a leader if he attacks adding injury to old injury and insult of the indigenous people of these islands. Which is no surprise, considering the source is a leader almost as insane and criminal as Bush.

8. This is bad
Great, just great. wev'e been on thier bad side since the korean war in the coldwar, we've ticked them off by impossing sactions that effectively leveled thier economy. They've pretty much have closed borders, with china refusing, and south korea will be a launching point for and invasion. They're mad and theyve got nukes. Theyve done a succesfull nuclear test, and the entire west coast is in range.Thy've already made it clear hawaii is going to go down, especially because they're fragile from the quake. that's a possible 1million casualtie right thier. then thiers LA. Imagine if they nuked LA. millions of deaths. billions of dollars in damages. fires raging through the area. And then we launch into a military quagmire in NK. provoking them to launch as many nukes as they can at the US before controll is lost. I'm going to canada once the first nuke hits. Life has enough problems, with out worrying about nuclear ahnialation.

9. In 2003, Rumsfeld Was Trying To Sabotage Talks w/ NK
Here is a 2003 article discussing the Bush's administration's strategy with respect to North Korea in 2003. Three years later, it is apparent that the strategy backfired.

Rumsfeld Calls for Regime Change in North Korea
by David Rennie in Washington

A secret Donald Rumsfeld memorandum calling for regime change in North Korea was leaked yesterday, opening a fresh foreign policy split in the Bush administration.

The classified discussion paper, circulated by the defense secretary, appears to cut directly across State Department plans to disarm Kim Jong-il, the North's dictator, through threats leavened by promises that his regime is not a target for overthrow.

The paper does not call for military action against North Korea, but wants the United States to team up with China in pushing for the collapse of Kim Jong-il's bankrupt but belligerent regime, the New York Times reported.

In a sign that Washington is girding itself for a repetition of the bitter rows that preceded the Iraq conflict, the memorandum was leaked on the same day that a senior State Department negotiator flew to Beijing for three-way talks with China and North Korea.

Officials working for Mr Rumsfeld are implacably opposed to the talks, pointing to North Korea's long history of extorting aid and concessions in return for promises - never kept - to behave in a more reasonable way.

Instead, they seek to use the salutary effect of the rapid victory in Iraq to push North Korea to scrap its nuclear weapons program immediately.

They also want to demand weapons inspections across the country. That would be an unthinkable concession for a Stalinist police state that bars even aid agencies from a third of its territory.

This raises the prospect that Washington would be urging inspections for form's sake and with little hope of success, much as happened in Iraq.

Even before the American envoy, James Kelly, arrived in Beijing for the talks, there were signs of new North Korean brinksmanship.

Pyongyang released conflicting statements last Friday, saying in an English language text that it had started reprocessing spent fuel rods into plutonium, a dramatic step that would place it only months from producing several nuclear warheads. However, a Korean version of the statement said that Pyongyang was merely poised to begin reprocessing.

10. Current article at Guam PDN link: 'A lot of rhetoric'
'A lot of rhetoric'
Officials address North Korea threat
By David V.
Crisostomo
Pacific Daily News
dcrisostomo@guampdn.com

A North Korean missile attack on Guam will likely fail because the communist
country doesn't have the capabilities to accurately target such weapons,
according to U.S. officials.

Any attack on Guam also would result in an "overwhelming retaliation" from the
United States, according to Delegate Madeleine Bordallo. The top Air Force
commander on Guam said U.S. forces are "ready to go yesterday" should an attack
happen.

-snip-

Full article: http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061017/NEWS01/610170301/1002

North Korea has a missile that theoretically reach U.S. soil, Hawaii and Guam.
Assuming that they can aim it accurately and assuming that North Korea
successfully attacks Hawaii, what do they accomplish?

They may kill many people but they won't harm the U.S. ability to retaliate
massively. An attack on the United States is suicide.

The real threat is North Korea will provoke a war that no sane person wants
since South Korea will be caught in the crossfire. A war on the peninsula
can cause an estimated one million dead for starters.
