4-Year-Old Boy Killed Himself with Gun
(AP) -- Authorities say a 4-year-old Aiken boy shot and killed himself after finding a loaded gun under a bed in his home.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Kavionne Brabham died shortly after the shooting around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the boy was looking for his new shoes when he found the loaded, unsecured .38-caliber revolver. They say he then pointed the gun at himself and pulled the trigger.

5. No, it was the store who sold it to an irresponsible gun owner.

No, it was the state which didn't pass legislation to keep the store from selling it to irresponsible people.
No, it was the state representatives who defeated the legislation.
No, it was the voters who elected those state representatives...who killed the boy.

Let's carry it to the logical conclusion. :D

11. You're giving away all the secrets.
The 9 - 0 never made any splashy headlines. 5 - 4 on the other hand will get folks from both parties reading the paper.

In these days even the small traditional home-town paper are mostly concerned with circulation.
The big national papers, even more so.

If it's not a fight, attention goes light,
but if it bleeds, it leads.

4. Very sad. Other stories with happier endings:

Kids are curious. They get into stuff. Responsible parents keep dangerous things--guns, knives, screwdrivers, poison, chemicals, medicines--where kids can't get to them.

Careless or negligent parents don't.

It's not the fault of the screwdriver or the gun.

It's the fault of the parent.

10. Five times more todlers are killed annually by accidents while walking.
Edited on Fri Jun-03-11 05:07 PM by GreenStormCloud
In 2007, 25 children five or under were accidently killed with guns. In a nation of 310 million that isn't very many. Since over five times as many were killed by walking accidents perhaps you should concentrate on making walking safer.

12. I'm self-righteous in the extreme...
...and I'm much more offended by deaths from guns than those from walking accidents. After all we can't BAN feet. :sarcasm:

All it takes is a soundbite about an unfortunate accident and a load of politicians and rights-robbing idiots want a new law.
That has to be the solution. If we can just make a new law, a better law. Maybe we can use statistics to find something they all have in common and ban that.

How impotent would you have to feel to start looking for new laws when there are thousands on the books now?
Some are ignored, others the cops don't even know about.

I guess it's just the quandary of the legislator. Just like the carpenter who only has a hammer. To him, everything starts to look like a nail.
But hey, if you pass a new law, you might get your picture in the paper.
