New novel about "The Deacons For Defense and Justice,”
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 09:13 PM by virginia mountainman
“They are the unsung heroes of the Civil Rights Movement,” Gray said.

The history of the Deacons includes defended Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in southern towns where his life was threatened. It is a true story of African-American men fortified by the Second Amendment right to bare arms choosing to defy the brutality of racist law enforcement officers and civilians.

Very interesting read!

Posters note: I am just trying to post an interesting article for your perusal, I am not trying to drive traffic to any blog or website that I have any vested interest in. I thank you for your understanding in this matter. I value the relationship between reader, and I as the poster, and I have no desire to try to use you, gentle reader, to have you click any link that would somehow enrich me, or self promote any blog I may or may not have

4. compare and contrast

Exhibit A: the Deacons for Defense and Justice

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deacons_for_Defense_and_Justice

Not wanting to fall victims any longer to groups like the Klan the African-American community felt that a response of action was crucial in curbing this terrorism because of the lack of support and protection by State and Federal authorities. A group of African American men in Jonesboro, Louisiana led by Earnest "Chilly Willy" Thomas and Frederick Douglas Kirkpatrick founded the group in November of 1964 to protect civil rights workers, their communities and their families, against the violence of the Ku Klux Klan.

Exhibit B: pick your poison from among the entire gaggle of gun militant outfits in existence today

Or find one single element of the modern gun militant brigade whose interests and actions are directed toward protecting an historically oppressed and vulnerable community / segment of the population, targeted for attack and murder by an armed group that enjoys impunity in its campaign of terror against that community/group.

I'll check back in the morning.

It didn't take long to type "unrec" and point out that I was unreccing because of the gratuitous and obvious you-know-what in your only contribution to your own OP.

11. Why should they? The use of firearms for individual defense is legitimate,...
..your strenuous protests notwithstanding.

8. Excellent post....+1 my friend.
Firearms are here for everyone to protect their interests. Individual, and collective groups.

God Bless the Second and the work it does for every one of us.
