British children to be allowed to see *gasp* shooting events at the Olympics
Outcry from the British Olympic Association, shooting organisations and athletes has forced Locog to open up its free Ticketshare tickets to shooting events to schoolchildren as well as other Ticketshare recipients like Tickets for Troops.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/shooting/8721693/London-2012-Olympics-Locog-reverses-ban-on-schoolchildren-getting-free-shooting-tickets.html

No doubt the eeeeeeevil NRA was behind this, in league with the right wing, mysogynistic, racist, conservative, fascist, anti-abortion, anti-gay rights British Olympic Association.

How could such evil prevail? isn't anyone thinking of THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!

1. How ugly, and sick....toters practicing to kill people from a distance.
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 02:20 PM by ileus
That's some really sick shit...those kids will all grow up and kill people with their cricket bats and kitchen knives.

I wonder if they'll have laser things and red dot people sighters, or if they'll be using tactical open human shooter sights?

2. You know that this is in England right? Where guns are banned right?
The NRA has about as much influence over there as the RNLI does over here....i.e. NONE.

6. A summer version of the biathlon? Sounds cool - I guess they could use inline skates,
or those little scooters (Razors?) that are so popular with the kids. Or are you just in favor of competitors trying to sprint across London in the summer heat wearing snow skis? (Which, actually, I'd probably watch - it could be a lot more entertaining than some Olympic sports... :) )

Silhouette targets would make it even cooler.

29. Why not the Pentathlon??? Air Pistols, Running, Riding, Fencing and swiming???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_pentathlon

It use to be run over a five day period, but today is one on a single day. Furthermore the run and air pistols are done at the same time. Very popular in Eastern Europe and has been called the sport where drugs can not be used (The drugs that make you a better Shooters, hurts your running and swimming, the drugs that makes you a better runner or swimmer, hurts your fencing and Shooting) and the winner of the Pentathlon is considered the best all around athelete in the Olympics.

12. it sounds like you're saying that they were not going to be allowed to do that
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 04:45 PM by iverglas
You would know that is false, right?

edit

the *gasp* real headline on the article in that rag:

London 2012 Olympics: Locog reverses ban on schoolchildren getting free shooting tickets
London 2012 Olympic Games organisers have reversed a decision that would have prevented schoolchildren from receiving free tickets to the Olympic shooting competitions.

... A Locog spokesperson said there had been little demand for shooting tickets from schools, but schoolchildren will now be allowed to access the Ticketshare tickets to the shooting events.

... The recent widespread rioting and mayhem across England which initiated in London boroughs heightened the sensitivity around promoting anything that might be linked to violence. But Olympic officials say they were simply responding to teacher feedback.

Under the Ticketshare scheme, one in eight London schoolchildren and six senior schoolchildren at each school around the country will receive free tickets, most of which are to football games.

And you can be pretty sure that the kids who get stuck with the shooting event tickets will be the ones who know they got the booby prize.

Not that I'm not sure target shooting isn't thrilling for those engaged in it; as I've said, it's right up my own alley. But as a spectator sport ...

17. You have a poker channel? I'm jealous, actually - our providers just put
poker on the regular sports channel, and I am unable to fully express the fury one feels when tuning in to watch <insert absolutely any real sport whatsoever> only to find a bunch of doofuses playing cards... :eyes:

I suppose that because they often shoot historic firearms it gets billing on the "History" Channel.

You haven't noticed? ;) The "History" Channel is just another junk channel these days, at which the owners produce an audience at very low cost and sell it to advertisers. It is here, anyhow (where most History Channel programming is US-derived, i.e. cheap, so it's essentially the War Channel).

No comment on that show! Except that from what I can tell, a lot of people will watch paint dry these days, if it's on television. As we were just saying in another thread the other day, one of the amazements of modern life for me is that my television has a golf channel ... and a poker channel ...
