NM family in gun smuggle raid appear in fed court

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico family accused of smuggling guns to Mexican cartel members have made its initial appearance in federal court.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that (http://bit.ly/oYqCn0) 55-year-old Rick Resse, his wife, 48-year-old Terri and sons, 24-year-old Ryin and 19-year-old Remington, heard the gun smuggling charges against them before U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory Wormuth.

A 30-count indictment accuses them of smuggling guns across the border with Mexico.

Prosecutors say that between April 2010 and July 2011, the family sold weapons favored by Mexican cartels to undercover agents. Prosecutors also say the family made false statements on firearms purchasing forms and laundered the proceeds.

1. Throw the book at them. Guns aren't for sharing with other countries.

2. At least some gun smugglers get arrested and tried ...
In my opinion, it would be far better if the ATF did its job and caught gun smugglers rather than allow guns from Mom and Pop gun stores to "walk" in some foolish plan that had little chance of success.

I personally believe that anyone who is convicted of straw purchasing firearms or smuggling them should be considered an accessory to any crime the firearms are used in.

3. Hmm, someone does something illegal, gets caught, and is being tried for it.
And your point is? Other than the fact that the laws we have work?
