Charleston man greets intruder with gun
http://www.abcnews4.com/story/15371419/charleston-man-greets-intruder-with-gun-until-officers-arrive

Phillip Ramsey was home with his mother when the intruder broke his bedroom window. Ramsey wasted no time getting his gun, he made sure the suspect did not go anywhere.

It happened around 12 p.m. Tuesday, when Ramsey says someone knocked on his back door. He did not answer it, then just moments later he heard something shatter.

"I heard glass break, I grabbed my gun and the telephone and called 911," says Ramsey.

...

According to Ramsey he explained the situation to a 911 operator while keeping Caddell right where he could see him. Ramsey says Caddell was not armed but he was pacing. Ramsey waited for officers for what he calls a five minute period that easily felt like 15 minutes or longer. At the same time his 91-year-old mother was in the next room.

1. He "greeted" the intruder.
"Hello! So nice to meet you, a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Too bad it couldn't be under different circumstances. Now, don't move, or I shall have to cap your ass."

Better living through superior firepower.

4. You sound like you would prefer that the homeowner had not been armed ...
and that he might have had to fight the intruder barehanded or possibly with a kitchen knife or ball bat.

In my opinion, the situation ended well with no one injured.

6. In a confrontation so described, from where would your "excitement" emanate?
From the breaking glass? From the 9-1-1 operator's confusion over your statement? From the threat to anyone 91-yrs.-old? From the danger to you, the home defender? From the sight of da thug, pacing, to go buck wild?

That's it, isn't it?

The last one.

Palpable yet?

9. Not too sure about your purpose in posting this.
Ramsey acted appropriately to his home being invaded. Is there some hidden polemic here that I'm missing?

18. Sorry. I just didn't pick up on any issue that anyone might have with the story.
I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the post. It was a good story with a positive outcome, nothing controversial about it, which is kind of rare.

20. I don't think that every story posted here need be controversial.
"Discussion of gun-related public policy issues or the use of firearms for self-defense belong in the Guns Forum."

The guy used a gun for self-defense. I happen to think people should be able to do so if and when they need to.

Some people in this forum ONLY post about guns being misused. I think it only fair and proper to post stories that show that guns can be a useful and even a life-saving tool when used by rational, law-abiding citizens.

12. Once in the '70's on a hot night like this I was busy in bed
when I heard a noise at the window. I got up and walked over and a head came through the curtains. I grabbed the head with curtains around it and started beating. The 'intruder' started yelling my name and it was my room mate, drunk and locked out. The OP just made me think of it, funny as hell.

23. He was from Hazard and probably needed shooting. LOL
Actually, the last I heard of him Interpol had handed over to the Feds and he has never been heard from again.
I don't know what he did, cocaine screams out.
Miss him too.

I did catch your drift.
