Whythe gun industry secretly loves Obama ((((fear))))
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44375021/ns/business-us_business/

Rick Perry’s emergence as the front runner for the Republican Presidential nomination would seem like a coup for the gun industry. The Texas governor’s enthusiasm for firearms rivals Yosemite Sam’s. He has an A+ rating from the Texas State Rifle Association and packs a laser-sighted Ruger pistol when he jogs. Last year, he famously shot a coyote that threatened his dog during a run. To commemorate his act of valor, the manufacturer, Sturm, Ruger & Co., produced a lightweight, limited-edition “Coyote Special” with the words “A True Texan” emblazoned on the barrel. Collectors snapped them up. Perry would be as ardent a champion of gun rights as has ever occupied the White House.

And yet he still may not do as much for the industry as Barack Obama already has. In the time since he took office, gun sales have soared. The government doesn’t track individual sales. But the FBI criminal background check required to purchase a gun is considered a reasonable proxy, and these have hit record numbers each year Obama has been in office. This year, they’re on track to surpass 15 million for the first time.

Ruger has done especially well. Since Obama’s inauguration the company’s stock price has risen more than 400 percent, making it a better investment than gold, which is up 113 percent. “They’ve been outstanding in offering new products, especially in the concealable handgun segment,” says Jim Barrett, an analyst at CL King who tracks the gun industry and rates the company a “strong buy.”

Analysts anticipated a brief jump in firearm sales after the election as many gun owners, fearful that a new Democratic President would move to ban assault weapons, fortified their home arsenals. “Initially, what spiked were the tactical rifles, the stuff Rambo might use,” says Barrett. As a result, 2009 was “a blockbuster year.”

1. Rambo would not use a crippled clone of a real military assault rifle ...
he would use the real thing and it would be fully automatic and hold at least 1000 rounds in its HIGH capacity magazine.

The sale of "tactical rifles" increased not only because Obama was elected to office but because shooters and hunters have discovered just how accurate and versatile these firearms are.

The uptick in demand for small compact pistols was not caused by Obama's election as much as the assault weapons ban which limited magazines manufactured after a certain date to have only a ten round capacity. At that time engineering began to produce much more compact firearms for the concealed carry market. The result has been some very popular firearms for those who carry concealed such as the Ruger LCP.

I understand that you think that everybody who does not agree with you view is an idiot (which reflects poorly on your own intelligence level). However if more corporations were run by executives as intelligent as those who run Ruger, we might not be in the economic mess we are today.

8. There are a lot of non-shooters in the GOP buying guns as political accessories
Those guns will just sit on the shelf of a bedroom closet, unused, until such folks die.

Hopefully, their heirs will be shooters. And liberal.

11. Buying a gun as a political accessory would be a waste of money ...
in my opinion.

But then the members of the Tea Party don't strike me as real smart.

3. That's no surprise. We have been talking about it ever since he won the election.
Even ammo was scarce for a while, and .380 ammo was really hard to find for a couple of years. I have seen pictures like these in gun stores and at gun shows.

12. I'm sure that goes over big with bigoted people who frequent gun stores -- not all, but a majority.

Why would a liberal keep going anywhere that markets like that?

18. Oh, they woulda done it with Hillary. Or Biden. Or Kucinich.
Hey, if you know of a left-of-center gun shop, let me know; I mean, speaking of market strategies, think of a gun shop which caters to and welcomes liberals, lefties, progs, etc. Some do, but don't hold themselves out as the real item: Liberals who favor 2A and serve liberal customers who favor 2A.

24. Obama's anti-gun record was the reason for the sales increase.
Bigotry had nothing to do with it. His record as a state senator and as a U.S. Senator was strongly anti-gun. So naturally it was feared that he would continue in the same efforts.

9. You can double this figure
From your OP

The government doesn’t track individual sales. But the FBI criminal background check required to purchase a gun is considered a reasonable proxy, and these have hit record numbers each year Obama has been in office. This year, they’re on track to surpass 15 million for the first time.

This only counts firearms bought from an FFL. There's probably an equal amount that's bought in a private transaction that require no paperwork.

A large portion of my guns were bought this way. Cash and carry. All legal.

The Government doesn't need to know what I own.

But private sales just move guns already in circulation to new owners, they don't add new guns to the market.

20. This is old, old news.
Firearm and ammunition sales skyrocketed even before President Obama was elected. Firearm folks remembered what happened the last time we had a Democratically-controlled congress and white house - the assault weapons ban.

For a time you couldn't find ammunition even on Walmart shelves. I knew a guy who was paying a stock boy at Walmart to set back ammo for him and he was then selling it online for a tidy profit.

By looking at the number of NICS checks since 2008, we can be fairly certain that firearm sales are at all-time record highs.

Yes, this is all driven by fear. Fear of what has happened in the past.

28. So... they're idiots because...
...they were worried about (and prepared for) Obama doing exactly what YOU want him to do?

Interesting premise there, sparky.

If they were thinking that Obama would do what the gun-control forces want him to do, and you're calling them idiots for being worried, you just admitted that they, in fact, had nothing to worry about... which is admitting your own sides' political powerlessness.
