My take on the game plan around the Miers nomination
First and foremost, this is the perfect distraction. With virtually no judicial record, anything that can or will be found out about her will be of the 'conjecture', 'gossip', or 'half-truth' sort - eminently and endlessly debatable.

And debate they will .... not so much in the Senate as in the public square, aided and abetted by the Three Monkey Media. Their job will be to distract and enable. And they've shown time and again they relish the role and excel at obfuscation

The Kennedy/Schumer wing of the party will be painted as nutty loons representative of the liberal fringe of American society. The religious right will bleat in feigned outrage as they set the stage that the woman is not right enough. A moral equivalency will be set up pitting the ultraconservatives in the Democratic party against the far right of the Repubican party. Reason will never enter the debate.

In the meantime, all the ongoing bad news for the junta figureheaded by idiot son will fall off the radar. At least for a few days. Enough to get his numbers up. Enough to shore up their base.

They know all this and that's why she was nominated. They are also more than willing to allow her to excuse herself or to withdraw her nomination. If she makes it, then they win. A partisan in place. If she doesn't get approval, they still win.

Distraction.

That's the name of the game.

2. That falls squarely under my posit that ......
....... "If she makes it, then they win."

That would be a byproduct of the distraction game. I don't think its their primary purpose.

3. If I were Howard Dean, I'd make you Grassroots Reality Czar.
Guy, will you just get a job at teh DNC advising them on what's REALLY going on out there? I'll contribute to a fund to keep you on the payroll.

There is so much damn intelligence (in both senses) on this board and it cracks me that it's pretty much wasted.

BTW, I was thinking along the same damn lines.

God help me, I'm beginning to think not like an HF intern, but a damn committee advisor. HELP!

4. I wonder if they ever read this or similar boards ....... ?
We surely don't have all the answers, but neither are we stupid.

I know that some of them read it .... or at least have close surrogates read it. Wesley Clark's son has an account here, has posted from time to time, and even had a post of three deleted (for profanity directed at someone, as I recall). Elizabeth Edwards also posts here. Both use their real names.

I've sent an occasional link to threads here to various media and political types. So they know we're here.

I would like to think that the DNC and, indeed, every big wig politico, has an intern, at least, who has the assignment of monitoring sites like this.

To be sure, we have our own share of loonies here. And even the more sane among us has posted looney shit from time to time, but overall, I think there's a boatload of good ideas here.

5. Nail-head. Hammer. Wham.
If you nailed it any harder, Husb2Sparkly, the entire infrastructure would come down.

Well done. The reality stinks, but well done.

6. I was thinking this, too
After doing a lot of reading here, I think they figure if she makes it, great; if she doesn't, even better. It all plays in the public eye and they can nominate whoever they want the second time around.

7. Yeah ... like Janice Rogers Brown ......
.... how do we oppose what has already been confirmed?

Remember, she was the subject of the traitorous non-fillibuster gang of 14.

8. No doubt that she will be approved because...
the Dems know that it won't get any better with another choice.

The RW has snookered the Dems once again.

9. I dunno about 'snookered' ......
.... there was no chicanery in this nomination. Strategy? Yup, without a doubt. But no trickery.

Of course, it is up to our side to find out the truth. If we get another O'Conner, I'd be satisfied. Not happy. But content.
