I could see Miers withdrawing her nomination |
|
Is she prepared for the kind of onslaught she might receive from the right?
From the press? From Senators? As an insider has she been exposed to such scrutiny before?
If the Dobson crowd wants her out, she could be in for a storm.

7. Imagine this scenario: |
|
You are a hardworking progressive who decided to get involved in the political process on a grass roots level because of some political issue which to you is also deeply tied to ethics and morality and the role of government.
You bust your butt against an opposition machine for many many many years slowly making progress...winning elections here and there, but every election is a fight, every candidate seemingly on the edge of defeat.
After a few years, filled with modest success and some setbacks finally the national movement you are a part of finally has a breakthrough and seizes power.
We're talking decades of hard work, money spent, elections participated in, mailing lists, blogs, local organizing, letters to the editor, you name a grass roots activity..you did it.
So now, after the cause you have fought so long and so hard for finally has an ally in the White House and a majority in Congress. The President (who only got elected because of the hard work of your movement, leaned heavily on it, and praised it to the high heavens) decides that instead of making a decision that directly benefits your movement, decides to wimp out and pick some middle of the roader who could go either way, and hasn't really shown any support for your cause one way or another.
How would you feel?

2. The nomination is made by the president therefore Ms. Miers |
|
could not withdraw it. She could remove herself from consideration.

6. Buzzflash links her to Delay |
|
Her legal firm is a donor and contributed to his defense fund. She was also involved in a lawsuit while at the Texas Lottery Commission (is their any agency of the Texas government that isn't thoroughly corrupt) and she may have been the one responsible for scrubbing Bush's military records.
Let's face it, to be a friend of George means to be utterly and entirely without scruples. There's dirt on this person. Bet on it.

She is a Fundie. The RW is playing their little game so that the Dems will be confused.

14. I personally don't know |
|
If Bush really wants her in he'll keep her. There is some reason why Bush is nominating her I think. I think it has to do with Plame/Wilson case and possibly "rewarding" her for her work with him and loyalty over the years. Remember Bush does that (see Condi and Roberts).

|
Could you please share with us how you feel your background as a Texas Lottery Commissioner, head of a law firm who settled charges of defrauding investors, and being the President's personal counsel uniquely suits you for the position of Associate Supreme Court Justice?

18. If she really accepts the word of the Bible, she should withdraw... |
|
"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression" (1 Timothy 2:11-14).
She shouldn't be seeking a position where she would have "authority" over men. Especially when she would be so easily deceived by those slick trial lawyers who argue cases before the Court...
