Georgia Democrat on Armed Services Committee on Bush's speech: "This is a plausible thing to try"
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 01:25 AM by Clarkie1
WASHINGTON - President Bush and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi both need Jim Marshall.

He’s a House Democrat who represents the kind of Republican-leaning district in the South — in Macon, Ga., and its environs — that Pelosi must keep in order to hold onto her majority in the House.

And Bush needs the support of Marshall and Democrats like him to give his Iraq policy a chance of success.

Marshall left Princeton University in 1968 to join the Army and serve in Vietnam. Now a member of the Armed Services Committee, he has toured Iraq 10 times.

<snip>

“This is a plausible thing to try.”

I wonder how many other "Republican-leaning district" Southern Democrats really feel this way? Is the article suggesting something that really isn't widespread, or is there a significant group of House Dems who feel this way?

2. What a load of crap.
It's plausible to throw good money after bad?

Let Mr. Moron Marshall detail to me the ways in which this ridiculous sop is different from business as usual in Iraq?

No. The Democrats do NOT need to do what the Republicans want. ANY Republicans. The Repudiated Party is NOT in a position to dictate policy to the Democrats no matter how slanted Newsweek writes its stories.

And the Democrats most certainly have no mandate to obey the timorous whinings of Republican-leaning Southern Democrats.

If the South thinks sending its children to be mutilated or killed is a good substitute for lost factory jobs, fine. Let them vote Republican. But they voted Democratic and Democratic is what they are entitled to get.

3. To be fair, Marshall and Barrow almost got thrown out in 06
The Democratic wave didn't hit Georgia. Marshall is really too liberal for his district and we ought to be grateful any time he votes with us.

4. I agree. Let them say such non-committal statements all day long as long as they
vote with the Democrats.

5. If GA could throw out Diebold, it would suddenly be a blue state top to bottom.
