Let Mr. Moron Marshall detail to me the ways in which this ridiculous sop is different from business as usual in Iraq?

No. The Democrats do NOT need to do what the Republicans want. ANY Republicans. The Repudiated Party is NOT in a position to dictate policy to the Democrats no matter how slanted Newsweek writes its stories.

And the Democrats most certainly have no mandate to obey the timorous whinings of Republican-leaning Southern Democrats.

If the South thinks sending its children to be mutilated or killed is a good substitute for lost factory jobs, fine. Let them vote Republican. But they voted Democratic and Democratic is what they are entitled to get.
