For HEAVENS Sake, I will not stand by and let DU freak out over Stupak-Conference will remove it! |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 10:45 PM by Politics_Guy25
The STUPAK ammendment will be REMOVED in conference just like the PO was re-instated by Majority Leader Reid after Senate Finance rejected it.
THE FINAL HOUSE-SENATE CONFERENCE BILL will not have the Stupak ammendment. The conferees will strip it and President Obama promised according to multiple reports to personally see to it that IT IS STRIPPED!
This ia a PROCEDURAL move ONLY. GOT IT?

I think they'll try to find a solution that allows abortion to be added to the insurance exchange choices, but not automatically included in subsidized plans.

At least I need to do that. I know I can't do anything about it, but I can vent to other folks of a like mind.

8. To be honest, I don't really get it. |

This process is arcane and totally inefficient. I don't even think 98% of Congress gets it, either.
I say we move this whole session to the Apollo Theater on Amateur Night and let the audience have at 'em.

Sure, it might be stripped out. Might not, too. But right now, tonight, the Democratic Party kicked women to the curb.

Republicans voted for it. The Democratic Party did not kick women to the curb.

25. The Democratic Party (or at least the House leadership) decides |
|
which amendments can be offered on a bill. The Democratic Party can count, and knew this amendment, if allowed to be offered, would pass. The Democratic Party damn well DID kick women to the curb. I don't care if it's for show, I don't care if they subsequently bring us back in. Well, ok, I do care if the provision eventually gets stripped out, but it doesn't change the fact that they DID do it. It's like an abusive relationship... "Please come back honey, I didn't really mean it, and I'll never do it again."
I knew a battered woman once who had a little plaque made up for when/if she ever had thoughts of going back to her ex. The text said "But he said he'd never do it again." On it was mounted her two front teeth. I feel like that woman tonight.

31. If the legislation never passes how did they kick women to the curb? |
|
Once the amendment is removed in conference there will be no quantitative set back for women's rights. At the end of the day that is all that matters.

|
The Senate bill faces the same drama as the House bill and then both go to conference. You can't be certain STupak will be kept. Not to say it won't, but there's nothing to say it will be kept. Most people hwere were screaming that the PO would be trigger and were against it. Then Reid said...hell no it's PO (no trigger). So let's see how this plays out while still putting pressure on Reid and those 39 clowns. Some of which were Floridians, you have some work ahead.

I don't think Stupak or any of the other blue dogs have the votes to kill the bill if Stupak isn't stripped.
So if things go correctly, Stupak gets stripped, it comes back to the house, Stupak throws a hissy-fit, then Pelosi and other Dem leaders twist arms, and they can apply HEAVY pressure because it's the final version of the bill, and usually at that point, there's enough political will to pretty much demand the bill pass.
Of course, that's assuming pro-life DINOs in the Senate don't put their own version of Stupak in their bill. If that happens, it'll be a lot harder to strip it out.
But here's hoping Stupak gets stripped out of the final bill.

28. Not so sure it will be stripped in conference. |
|
The bill barely passed in the House as is, and the opposition from the left, Kucinich and Massa, claim they would have voted against the bill even if they had the deciding vote.
So basically Kucinich's vote makes it less likely that the Stupak amendment will be removed in conference because they can't afford to lose any Blue Dogs at this point.
Way to go Kooch.

whistling past a graveyard.
you have no way of knowing, with your all caps assurance, that that disgusting, woman-hating piece of garbage known as the stupak amendment, will be removed. women don't seem to be a high priority of this congress.
