Ohio-Governor Poll: Strickland and Kasich dead even |
|
OH-Gov: Strickland Now Dead Even With Kasich, According to Q Poll As has been said many times on this site, the present political climate is just lousy for incumbent governors, of all political persuasions. The undertow has, predictably, hit the state of Ohio, where incumbent Democratic Governor Ted Strickland is now in a dead heat with former Congressman John Kasich (40-40), according to new numbers from Quinnipiac. Strickland has essentially mediocre approval numbers (45/43), while Kasich has a decent favorability spread despite being a relative unknown (23/7). The Q poll will release new numbers on both the Ohio Senate race tomorrow as well as the Connecticut Senate race.

1. Ohio has lost many jobs and are struggling with foreclosures. A recent |
|
report was released identifying the 10 states most vulnerable to total economic collapse. California, Michigan, Nevada (highest foreclosure rate), were on that list. Ohio was as well...
I cannot believe that John Kasich is running for governor. :puke::puke:
The Dems could lose big in 2010, including the senate race in Illinois, the governor's race in New York if Paterson is the nominee. It doesn't look good.
And the saddest thing about this is that this horrible economy is Bush's fault, but the governors typically have to pay for it with their jobs.

Strickland is DLC, though, and a lot of positions he has taken have been noticed by Ohio progressives as being "business as usual."
It also didn't help that the Democratic party of Ohio got behind two very corporate ballot initiatives this last election. One for the deregulation of factory farms by removing oversight, and the other being the opening of a casino by out-of-state investors. Both passed, and did so by virtue of disinformation campaigns.
He is a ton better than Taft was, but Strickland inspires exactly no one. Not to mention that his administration had a corruption issue or two in his short tenure as governor.
Heck, he's going to have a hard time getting my vote, so I know that does not bode well. Pro-business Democratic governors that get little accomplished are not going to get Democrats to come out and vote for them. Populism is getting popular in Ohio (especially in the NW), but the Democratic party here doesn't seem to notice...sending up DLC types for us to vote on, as usual.
If Strickland loses, it will be a combination of the reasons Corzine and Deeds lost.
