Birmingham DUer's..
I'm not certain if you're aware or not, but a local radio station, 101.1 The Source, is nothing but a propaganda outlet for Republican talking points. Here's my proposal: where possible, hijack the shows, slam them with opinions and, if necessary, ask the hosts why they hate America. I'm serious, I'm sick and tired of these programs being nothing more than an amen corner for the Republican party. Here's some contact information: Locally: 205-941-1011, toll free: 1-866-551-9933. Of course, they aren't sophisticated enough to have a webs simulcast. Here's a local program listing: http://www.thesourcefm.com/

Let the hijacking commence and remember, no prisoners!!! ;)

2. Ew, that's the station with Russ and Dee Fine?
I happened on their website the other day while I was Googling something. Those two are nuts.

Birmingham has really bad radio. There's nothing I cah stand to listen to in the morning. Thank goodness for Sirius.

3. Russ & Dee..
They used to be somewhat objective, but after being cashiered from several stations, they know who butters their toast now.

4. they love the kids
this morning my fellow demonstrator and i were verbally attacked and speculated upon by russ, dee, and their good christian brother, mark, who yelled obscenities at us just before going on the radio to say that as two high school students, we are not old enough to form our own opinion.

but we're old enough to hear him call us "FUCKING PIGS" as we calmly walk away?

russ and the gang also went on to conclude that our minds had been poisoned by horrible liberal parents, that we are simply regurgitating garbage we heard from some adult, we have computers in our room, neither of us have ever worked, and we wouldn't get on the radio because we were scared of people knowing who we were (but we'll protest in front of a school of 2,000+ ?).

wrong. wrong. wrong. wrong. wrong.

my sign read "JESUS WAS A LIBERAL."

5. I heard that this AM..
and hell, Jesus was a liberal considering he ministered to prostitutes, tax collectors, the mentally ill, and the rejected poor. If Jesus appeared to most churches today, they'd show him the door. Considering Christ said "It's easier for a camel to thread the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven", what part of the sign did the man not get?

7. all of it?!
WOAH you heard that?!
literally every item that they presumed was incorrect.

the guy that called in was more belligerent about my friend's sign - GERMANS SUPPORTED THEIR TROOPS TOO. he asked us how we could say something like that about our soldiers and how we could not support their efforts ... he missed the point. he was also inflamed when my friend told him we have a "nazi president" ... a mistake given the audience.

did you hear what he had to say the first time he called in or only after he'd talked to us?

8. thank you, but ...
i'm a junior girl at hoover, a suburb of birmingham.

i just put in an application to the city for another demonstration (yesterday's had to end because we had no permit) on the 16th, the two-year anniversary of the invasion of iraq.

a teacher plans to hold a sign saying "I DISAGREE, BUT SUPPORT THEIR RIGHT TO SAY IT".

the most encouraging support i've gotten reminds me of the voltaire quote: "i disagree with everything you say, but i will fight to the death for your right to say it."

9. Nice To Meet You
Welcome to DU! It's good to know that we have young Dems in Alabama wanting to make a difference. And yes, I know where Hoover is. The Buccaneers, I know them all too well in fact.

So you actually travel to different cities to protest? That is so cool. Where is this site where you can apply to go to the protests? If the stars align right I might be able to attend one of them.

Keep up the good work, and continue to voice your mind.

Nice to meet you,
Trip

11. Oh
I misunderstood you. I under the impression that you went to the protests when Bush came to Montgomery.

Anyway, we are on the same page now. :)

13. Hi, Sweet Tea!
I'm in Hoover, too. You're protesting at the high school tomorrow? That's amazing!

Hoover is SO conservative. (sigh) I'm always amazed when I run across a fellow liberal who lives here.

Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes!
