Let's bring Air America to Alabama
Clear Channel recently switched formats for its low-ratings AM country music station in Baton Rouge, La., to Air America. They did it after a campaign by local activists persuaded Clear Channel to make the switch.

Here's how they did it:

If they can do it in Baton Rouge, it can be done in Alabama.

Anybody up for a petition drive?

1. I wouldn't mind that at all
I'm not that impressed with most of the AAR that I've heard. Randi Rhodes seems like a nice lady, but her voice and style are terribly grating (and did she name herself after Ozzy's late guitarist?). Al Franken is pretty good on the highlight reel on Sundance, but he gets kind of boring on long-form radio. I like Janeen Garofalo, but she sure can be ultra-PC. Mike Malloy is good -- in small doses.

Still, I would like to see them come to Alabama stations. Anything would be better than Limbaugh and Hannity everywhere all the time!

By the way, apparently these are the Clear Channel stations in the state:

Birmingham
* WENN-FM
* WERC-AM
* WMJJ-FM
* WDXB-FM
* WQEN-FM
Gadsden
* WAAX-AM
* WGMZ-FM
Huntsville
* WBHP-AM
* WDRM-FM
* WHOS-AM
* WTAK-FM
* WWXQ-FM
* WXQW-FM
Mobile
* WDWG-FM
* WKSJ-AM
* WMXC-FM
* WNTM-AM
* WRKH-FM
Montgomery
* WMCZ-FM
* WQLD-FM
* WZHT-FM
Tuscaloosa
* WACT-AM
* WRTR-FM
* WTXT-FM
* WZBQ-FM

2. I think their best host is Mark Maron on Morning Sedition
The thing to do is to figure out which station(s) has ratings in the tank, so that management will be willing to take a chance on Air America.

3. I Like Rachel Maddow
I've never heard her on the radio, but on TV she seems very polished and up to date.

4. I haven't heard him on the radio
But I always thought he was funny, and oh so cynical, on the Conan O'Brien show.

6. Carlson?
He just looks like a Republican to me. That dumb bowtie and wavy hair. A stereotype I guess... :eyes:

7. yeah, like George Will
I've never seen a Democrat wear a bow-tie. Except for that mayor of Washington.

You know that guy with wavy hair and, usually I think, a bow-tie, Byron York? He doesn't have a Southern accent at all, but he's from the Birmingham area. You're too young to remember, but his dad is Tom York, who used to be a tv personality on channel 6. I think he still does an occasional local commercial.

12. Bow-Tie
I have started wearing bow-ties a lit lately. I have a blue one with little donkey's waving American flags. On the radio thing I think that Al Franken is really good. I don't really listen to any of the other shows. In case ya'll don't know they have the full mp3's here of every show. If ya'll are like me I don't have time in the middle of the day to listen to AL.

11. Excuse me, folks
The OP asked if anyone is up for a petition drive, and all y'all could do was critique the hosts. As my grand-daddy used to say "Air we or ain't we". Personally, I am.
