I Think I'm Writing In Loretta Nall

There doesn't seem to be much difference between Riley and Baxley. At least none that Baxley is willing to show. Perhaps she'll show me different.

Don't go to Baxley's site if you are on dialup.

Riley's going to win (barring some huge scandal.)

Before you jump on me, listen to these Loretta Nall ads that are currently running on Montgomery radio.

Religious Extremism And Gay-Hating

War, Democracy, Ballot Access

Drug Policy

Government Waste

4. I take it Nall couldn't get on the ballot?
I like what she has to say, though I must add that her ads seem too rushed. She seems to be trying to squeeze 2 minutes of dialogue into 30 seconds of ad time. Alas, that is what you HAVE to do when campaign dollars are limited.

I like her. She doesn't sound like she pictures, but I like her a great deal.

Alabama is probably the toughest state for a third-party candidate to get on a ballot. She needed to collect 43,000 signatures, but was only able to get about 15,000 by the deadline.

She's a high-school drop-out, but she makes more sense than I've heard from Montgomery -- ever.

I don't know why she associated with the Libertarian Party. She says that she agrees with liberal Democrats more than any other group.

8. Nall and Libertarians
Not sure how she figures economically, none of the ads really gave any hint. She might be a big free market fan, thus putting her perfectly in the libertarian It's-my-body-and-money-and-you-can't-control-either-because-I'm-irrationally-paranoid-and-selfish crowd.

9. Her education plank is disconcerting...
She refers to public education as "the government schools" and does seem a touch paranoid about them. Her desire to totally privatize Alabama's school system (at least that's the way I read it) has put me off of her campaign from the beginning.

That being said, she does come across as articulate and intelligent. Cute, too. ;)

11. Hi Jody!
I constantly change my mind about these things. I was saying all along that I was going to vote in the Republican primary just so I could vote against Roy Moore and his minions. But then when election day rolled around, it was clear that Moore was going to lose big. So I went ahead and voted for Lucy in the Democratic primary.

However, I did cross over in the runoffs. The biggest race in the Democratic runoff was for Tuscaloosa County probate judge. I figured Hardy McCollum would easily win. He's been in there for thirty years, and it seems like he's doing a pretty good job. He did win, but it was a little closer than I had anticipated. I wanted to vote against Luther Strange, and I did. I strongly support Jim Folsom in the general election, but if a Republican should win, I'd much prefer it to be the populist George Wallace Jr., rather than HealthSouth lobbyist Luther Strange. Strange's strange advertisements seemed to say that we should vote for him because he's really tall! And that Wallace is a Michael Dukakis clone.

:wtf:

Okay, I lost that one. :(

My problem in the gubernatorial race is that I don't really know what Lucy Baxley stands for. She needs to differentiate herself from Riley. And I think Riley's been a pretty decent governor. Not as good as Folsom by a long shot, or even as good as Siegelman, but certainly the best Republican governor of modern times. Riley is orders of magnitude better than Guy Hunt or Fob James. My biggest problem with him is his sucking-up to Bush/Cheney.

To tell the truth, I'll probably end up voting for Baxley, but Loretta more closely reflects my beliefs (except for her views on public education, as I perceive them).

:hi:

I knew there was something I liked about Loretta Nall.

Well, check out who she quotes in her blog.

It appears that people who are filled with bitterness and hate never bothered to learn how to communicate it in written form. Their ignorance is blinding and I am always reminded of the lyrics to Rush’s ‘Witch Hunt’

“Quick to anger, Quick to judge, Slow to understand, Ignorance and Prejudice go hand in hand.”

I imagine she's toked-up and listened to 'Moving Pictures' at some point in her past!

"Witch Hunt" is a perennial favorite!

She paraphrases, of course:

Quick to judge,
Quick to anger,
Slow to understand.
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

15. We are definitely voting for Baxley.
Sorry, but Nall has no chance of winning and I don't want Riley back in. He is the person who appointed General Bowen over the ANG and Reserves and Bowen (who sits on his fat ass in AL) is the one who keeps volunteering the AL units to serve in Iraq. My husband's unit was re-deployed for a second time to Iraq. They were there for nearly 14 months the first time and have orders for a minimum of 12 months this time. These people really need to go and there are quite a few guardsmen and their family members who feel the same way.

When I started this thread, I had a case of Nall Fever. I had just heard her radio commercials and I was thinking "Damn, she sounds just like me." Her positions, not her voice. ;)

I'll be voting for Baxley unless a Riley landslide is inevitable. Unfortunately, right now, that seems to be the case. But maybe some more news will come out about Riley's Abramoff/Reed money. I certainly hope so, because that's probably the only thing that can sink the incumbent.

EDIT: I'm sorry to hear about your husband being sent back to Iraq. I hope for his safety.

21. Thank you
Just wanted to drop by and thank all of you (whether you will be voting for me or not) for taking the time to look at my campaign and my issues in this election and to carry on a discussion of it here. For those of you who think I can't win I say 'I can win if you vote for me'. For those of you who are voting your conscience and writing my name in...Love on Ya!! This is the way we get where we want to be.

For those of you who don't know...I am available via email and/or phone if you have issues you would like to discuss with me. You won't get my spokesperson or my assistant...you'll get me. I'll answer your questions if I can and tell you if I can't. I encourage any and all of you who would like to question me further to please do so. You can reach me via phone at 251-650-2271 or at my email (cnall1@charter.net). If you get the machine I promise I will call you back.

Thanks again for the support and discussion.

22. Cool!
Hi Loretta, nice to see you here. (I took a break from the internet for about a week, and am just now seeing your post.)

I have to say that I admire your courage and determination. You are a breath of fresh air in Alabama politics. I hope that you get involved with the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party is meant to stand for fairness, justice and peace... at least that's what I think. Many of our Alabama Democrats are just Republicans-lite, and the state party needs a swift kick in the pants.

In any case, I hope you drop by the Alabama forum here from time to time.

Good luck to you! :hi:

24. Welcome to DU, Loretta!
I've just sent you an e-mail inviting you to join me for a conversation on "Head-On With Bob Kincaid."

More than any other liberal radio, the Head-On Radio Network (The H.O.R.N.) provides an open forum for southern liberals to make their voices heard.

Want to scare the Repiglican Party plum to death? Start letting the GOP hear southern voices with southern accents blasting their evils and their hypocrisies!
